Convention in Janaury?

Someone posted they heard there is a convention in Janaury 20-24... can someone tell me what this is?

Lotusphere is always held that time of year. It's a massive (it had 10,000 attendees one year I was there) conference regarding an IBS software development platform.

10,000 would not be a massive convention. That's nothing for Orlando. Did you mean 100,000 attendees?

10,000 is the largest technical conference that the Dolphin can support. Back in the day, the Lotusphere conference would sell out without hours of the tickets (at $1500.00 each) going on sale months ahead of time. They could easily have gotten 20,000 attendees if there was any place on WDW that could host so many people.

I'm sure 10,000 attendees is a large convention at the Dolphin, but it wouldn't be considered "massive" by Orlando standards. Obviously, it would have an impact at the Dophin and the Boardwalk area. Probably doesn't affect the parks much.

It doesn't affect the parks at all, except when they close one of the parks for a private party.

Just searched for Lotusphere 2007 & it is Jan. 21-25.

If they close a park for this at night, how much notice do they give? For instance, if I already have an ADR for a night at MGM, is there a chance that it might get cancelled because that park is closing for the conference?

Yes, it is possible that they'll close a park early with little notice, perhaps extending hours at another park to compensate (or not). I'll check the Lotus websites to see if anyone has an inside track on the party, which has typically been Wednesday night.

Okay, I just checked -- no one I know has any idea where the party will be in 2007 yet.

We are at Disney the same time every year. I know every year we go the PGA Merchandise convention is always going on in town. Doesn't seem to affect parks much however. This year it is Jan 25-27th.
