Convenience vs Cost, off-site rental vs Disney rental

So my mom has expressed interest in going to Disney (for the first time ever, I might add) with us on our next trip which might possibly be next year, during the Fall. I know that she will need to rent a scooter of some sort for about three park days. She is not disabled, but older, so I know she would find one really helpful.

I know I could rent one from Disney directly at about $50 a day, right? Or I could rent one from a off site rental for much cheaper. Now to me, convenience is far more important than money on this trip. So I am leaning towards just renting one for each day she is in the park, which will be only about 3 days. Does anyone have any advice for me on this? Convenience vs. Cost?

As of know, I have POFQ or AKL narrowed down for our resort stay, if that has any bearing.

I have done both, and now own my own. I always looked at it as how long do I need the scooter. If you know you will just need it for the parks and don't want to bother with it at the resort, I would just rent at the parks everyday. Cost would be about the same because of the short time you are renting. If your mom would enjoy having it at the resort to help her get around, then rent off-site so its always available.

If she has never used one before, have her go to a big box store like Target or Wal-mart and try it out there.

Right, just probably need one for the parks. But, trying one out before the trip would be a great idea. The convenience of not having to get one on and off the buses and such would be great! I think I have read they go pretty fast at the parks and to get one early though.

If I remember right, I think you can control the speed on the park ones, but you can't control the speed when you use them at a store. I do think you have to rent them pretty early to get one.
