Continuing dogs in resorts.

For my own curiosity where did you see this announcement?

I haven't been able to find any Disney Official announcement and all these "blogs" that are announcing as such are giving no source.

But the website has been changed. It no longer says a test until October 2018 BUT it does say this ...

Do you have any pet-friendly hotels?
Yes. As part of an ongoing pilot program, 4 of our Disney Resort hotels have designated dog-friendly accommodations ...

Which in itself doesn't comfort me because a pilot is usually the first part of a roll out.

AND it says ...

At this time, dogs are the only pets allowed ...

Are they considering adding other pets, such as cats because we are talking huge allergies and other, sometimes bigger, issues with that.

And the next paragraph with a few rules, which haven't been enforced.

I have no issue with true service animals at all. I do not even mind if they were in the room before I was. I am thankful that they are available to people who need them.

I personally feel this "bring your pet to Disney" policy encourages people to pay "Billy Bob's Service Animal Certification" their $10 fee to get a "cert" and haul their pet around the parks. If the animal is not trained for that, it is animal cruelty because it stresses them out to put them in that environment just so you do not have to leave Fido at home.

I have seen older people with their "comfort animal" in an ECV basket yapping away at other dogs and guests. It makes me angry at the owner and it hurts my heart for the animal. I saw one man hit his little terrier several times. It was a hard hit. Moved the dog to the other side of the basket attached to the ECV. I wanted to punch him. I told him he was abusing the animal. He told me where I could stick it. I told a CM manager and they said there is nothing they can do.

Ugh I am displeased. There are now Disney resorts that I will never choose to stay in.... too bad, I wanted the chance to give Disney $$$$ and experience them all.
Yes I know about service dogs, if I was unhappy with the state of the room upon check-in, I would be going right back down to the front desk to get an allergy deep-clean and we can camp out in the lobby if need be.

I wish they allowed cats too, it would be so nice to bring mine and not have to board her. And cats are easier to leave in a room the entire day unlike a dog that has to be walked.

No way. I would be stressed the entire vacation if we brought our two monsters. It would take them days just to come out from hiding under the bed to eat! God forbid a maid opened their door and they made their escape to the outside!

Oh my gosh, my twin cats looks so much like yours! :cat:

I agree, though, no way should cats be allowed in hotel rooms! Allergies would be one major issue, but I don't even want to think about people keeping stinky litter boxes in those little rooms! Some cats can also be territorial and urinate on the floor if they pick up the scent of a different animal that has been there before. Cat urine smell is so hard to get out of the carpet! This would be a terrible idea, I hope they never start allowing cats!

Put me in the group that is not at all pleased with the dog policy. We are a family of six, and Disney provides a very short list of reasonably priced accommodations for our family size if we all want to be in the same room. This dog policy has taken two of the options off that very short list (AOA and cabins) if we want to avoid dog resorts. When people say, "Just stay somewhere else", that annoys me, because it's not always that simple.

How is a cat peeing on the carpet any different than a dog peeing on the carpet? Because you know that happens at Disney, too.

We are also a family of 6 and had the same issue last year. We booked a Fort Wilderness cabin sometime in the spring/summer of 2017 for a January 2018 trip for Marathon weekend. Of course, it wasn't until October that they announced the new dogs allowed policy, and being that marathon weekend is so busy, it was hard to find an alternative. We did end up finding a 2 bedroom OKW available (at about twice the cost!) but in the end decided to just stay in a cabin and hope for no dog issues.

Now I could never imagine bringing my pets to Disney, but I can tell you, these two dogs here would love nothing more than to come. They would try and get as much love off anyone who would be willing to shell it out to them, all day long, no matter who it is. The only stress they might encounter is sensing one might be getting a little more attention than the other. There is no shame in either ones game regarding food, love, attention, toys, ect. Entitlement at its finest.

PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE tell me that the dogs are not permitted in the restaurants! Nothing against pets but as KyleAfterAWhile said, many people purchase bogus paperwork and do not have a true service animal. My DH and I were at a Chick Fil A recently and someone brought in an "emotional support" dog and they were actually feeding the dog from the table.

I do have an allergy to dogs and control my exposure but having animals where food is served is just UGH!

POR was my favorite resort but I won't go back until I know for sure that the pets are confined to specific buildings. Nothing against pets and those who love them, but I for one, would not want to be in a room next to someone with a dog who could potentially be barking half the night at every sound as a result of being in an unfamiliar place.

Only true service dogs are "allowed" in restaurants. And that would apply to any restaurant on property. That said, Disney is not good at enforcing their rules, so don't be shocked by anything. Someone posted a photo early on in the test of a dog in the quick service eating area at AoA.

I'm going to come hand out in your room all day. Such cuties! ;) :)

Anyone know if any of the Royal guest rooms at POR are pet friendly? We are traveling with someone with allergies and want to avoid the dog rooms. POR Royal rooms are our first choice but don’t want to risk staying in a pet friendly room

That is my concern too. I'm allergic to dogs and severely allergic to cats. If Disney does not keep some rooms pet free what happens if someone has a severe reaction because either the room wasn't cleaned well enough or a family with a service animal is placed at the table next to mine while eating. Not that I would sue if a severe reaction occurred but could a person sue Disney? What if a dog bites another guest?? I guess I have a problem that someone else's rights infringes on mine. Where is the liability in those situations? When a child has a severe peanut allergy everyone does everything to make sure it is a nut free environment.
