I booked a Continental flight going through Newark at the end of this month. I'm worried about winter weather. Did I make a mistake? How is the service on Continental? I've never flown with them before. I can change it again going through ATL instead for another change fee, but didn't know if I should save my change fee or not.

I am originally from NJ and have used Newark airport many times during the winter. I think it is actually better than Atlanta. Atlanta seems to have many times when flights are delaued. Newark is one of Continentals hubs so they can usually handle anything there.

In my experience, Continental is excellent. We flew Continental out of Newark to Rome last year--in January--and it was great. We're flying Continental out of Newark to Orlando in 2 weeks.

As far as the weather's concerned, I'm not sure there's anything you can do about it! :) But it's been a ridiculously warm winter in the area. It's supposed to be 70 degrees today!

I have flown Continental several times to WDW from Newark and the flights both ways are usually on time ( early on many occassions)

Thanks for all the nice reports. :) I'll have to keep them in mind for future travel if this doesn't work out. I'm going to hold out and watch the weather. If the patterns hold up I'll keep it. Otherwise, I'm going to wuss out and book a direct or through ATL. :guilty:

We fly out of EWR most of the time. (til we discovered SW Dings and the ease of PHL...) In Feb '05 we were bumped as it's a very busy time-- the flight was overbooked as EVERYONE wants to leave NJ over President's Week. Seems like major blizzards often occur during that time so the chance of weather delays is significant too.

We were okay with being bumped as they put us up overnight, sent us in first class the next morning (although we got the same bag of pretzels as the plebes in coach, which was a tad disappointing) and got two free trips out of the $400 vouchers they gave us as compensation. There were a lot of frantic calls regarding car rentals and we wound up landing in Miami and driving to a different airport to get our luggage.

This year, we specifically picked EWR and Continental instead of getting a cheaper flight on SW for next month due to the possibility of bad weather- EWR is 10 min away vs. PHL which is an hour and a half.

Wish the weather would stay like it was yesterday-- it actually passed 70 here and set records. We hung out in Central Park where the roller skaters were dancing in sleeveless tops- Eyewitness News was there too, it was pretty neat.
