I booked our flights on Continental with my Continental credit card. With the card we don't have to pay baggage fees, we will probably check 2 bags in for the 3 of us do I have to show them my credit card at the airport or will it say on our tickets I print out after checking in online? Thanks, Linda

I am not sure, but you should be sure to have it with you. That said, make sure the flights are actually Continental flights. I booked thru continental.com since I have their card, but the flights were actually on United... I had to pay for bags...... if your flights are actually on Continental, you get free bags, but if the flights are on United or US Air, you pay for bags... at least that was the policy in June 2011.

When you checkin online, you designate how many checked bags, and the system will recognize your free bag allowance right there.
On the way home if you are using RAC at your resort, you might have to show the card. Sometimes they ask, but it will show on your CO reservation that you have a CO card and first checked bag is free.

I purchased 3 tickets for me DH & DS with the continental credit card would we get first free bag per person or would I only get my bag free since the card is in my name? We will probably have 2 bags for the 3 of us. Thanks, Linda

From Continental.com http://www.continental.com/web/en-US/content/products/cards/getmore/bagfee.aspx

Primary cardmembers and a companion get their first standard checked bag free each time they fly Continental or United when they purchase their tickets with their Card (a savings of up to $100 per round trip).

For credit card accounts opened prior to July 19, 2011: Effective for flights flown on or after Jan. 1, 2012, the number of customers receiving the free bag waiver will be limited to the primary cardmember and one companion.

So, it looks like they have changed their terms to include United in the free bags, probably since the merger is in progress. I was not so lucky. I booked on Continental.com and was on United flights this past June. I had to pay for bags.

Yes, we have the continental credit card and were able to get free bags on United this summer. I did have a problem when I checked us in on-line as it wanted to charge me. I just put that I had '0' bags and went to the counter once at the airport, explained to her about the card and she checked our 4 bags in for free (4 of us on the reservation).

We flew July 31 and Aug 14, after that post about only the cardholder and companion. I hadn't even heard of that until now. It used to be anyone on the same reservation up to 9 people.

Up until this change, you could check a bag per person on your reservation, so for my family, we either travelled as 3 or 4 and could check a bag per person.

Now when I travel with my boys, we'll only be able to check 2 bags, which means more carry on bags for us.

I am the original poster I just wanted to update since we just returned from our trip. I booked my ticket with rewards points so it wouldn't let me online get an additional free bag just mine. They let me know at the airport that even though I booked the flights at the same time because of the rewards points I used for one ticket I was not entitled to another free bag just mine. I think that stinks, I pay a yearly fee for this credit card and it took me years to accumulate points for a free flight. I'm thinking of cancelling my card and using my American express instead that I can use for different airlines. Linda
