Are American companies allowed to charge a fee for credit card transactions?
I was once on a thread on the main boards, If I remember rightly I posted a hotel deal with a UK agent available to US customers and someone commented on the card fee, said surely it was against the law, I told them in the UK companies are allowed to charge a fee if upfront about it and not hidden. This might be a couple of years ago so I might have got my facts wrong or they might have now changed their rules but I have never been charged a CC fee by any US company. Any US reader that can comment would be appreciated.
Is there a contact phone number you can call? If there is a charge, they have to make it clear which it sounds like they have not. I would think as Wayne said, no charge. However if I were in your position I would also want to confirm this for certain and the best place to do this is directly with Continental.
I don't think I have ever paid a credit card fee with Continental or any other US online transaction. (Must be a law about that I am guessing) But as I am an American living overseas, my US credit card does charge a 3% transaction fee for international purchases (when I buy an airline ticket from Turkish Airlines for example) - so that is from my card - others are different.

I don't think we paid a credit card fee with Continental either! Have used them twice now and there's nothing on my confirmation stuff about a credit card charge
Thanks! I haven't got round to ringing yet. If my Travel Agent can meet their price I will let her book it. Will know tomorrow. Can't wait to be booked and sorted - I hate playing th flight watch game!!
