Continental Carry-on with Stroller Question/Confirmation

I've been trying to get a hold of a live person from Continental Airlines, but I'm either on hold for 30+ minutes or the recording said they are unavailable.

Could I just get some confirmation from my fellow DISers to make sure I'm reading this correct. We're a family of 3. Each of us will have a carry-on. Since we're also each allowed a personal item, we'll have a camera bag, laptop bag, and a purse.

Here's where I need confirmation. We will also be bringing a small umbrella stroller and gate check it. Does this stroller count as a personal item?

You are safe ... I have traveled from New England (BOS, PWM, MHT etc) to various locations with Continental. The stroller or a car seat are not part of the carryon Bag count.

When we travel this is what we bring:
Me - Laptop in backpack
Wife - Purse + Bag
Son 9 - backpack + car seat
daughter 8 - backpack +car seat

What may happen is that as you board the plane they ask if they can tag the stroller and have it put with baggage. This relates to available room in the plan. We have been asked to check our car seats on a few occasions ... never has this cost money.

There is no fee to gate check, just get a gate check claim from the gate agent and leave your stroller (folded securely) at the door to the aircraft. It will be delivered to the gate at arrival so be sure to wait there for it if it isn't waiting for you.

If you prefer to send it through as baggage the fees are waived for a stroller.

All the info can be found on the Continental website as well:

The bigger question is how in the world are you going to be able to wheel three bags, hold two largish personal items and a purse. One adult will be pushing the stroller and the third will be riding in the stroller. Are you going to turn your husband into a pack mule?:confused3 There is no way to safely push a stroller and wheel a 22" rolling bag. You may want to rethink your strategy. Just because you can drag all that on the plane doesn't mean you should do it since you don't have enough hands to safely manage it all.

Just a quick tip - ask for the gate check tag well before you board the plane. Those agents tend to get busy as departure time approaches! I usually ask for it as soon as we arrive at the gate.

Just FYI - No US airline (that I know of) counts items such as strollers or car seats against your baggage allowance.
