Has anyone used them out of Halifax? Do they generally have seat sales comparable to other airlines?

we've flown twice with continental. once last october and once this april. they were the most inexpensive way to get to disney. and our ta looked at all the options. i think it was about 2000 for 2 adults and 2 kids last year. this year was a little cheaper as i had a voucher from them for damages to my stroller.

the only thing i don't like about continental is they use a tin can to fly from here to newark. one seat on one side and 2 on the other. made it hard with the kids, as i was always worrying about them. snacks were a banana muffin here to newark and newark to here. a full meal from newark to orlando, a small sandwhich, a bad of chips i believe and a small fun size bar. there are no blankets nor pillows on the flghts, or so we were told, and both times they offered head sets for the low low price of five bucks.

now newark to orlando after a few hrs of lay over was 3 and 3 seats, much more comfy and individual tv's in the seat backs.

hth's a little.

We have flown with Continental a few times...connecting at Newark.

They generally had seat sales which was sometimes better than the other airlines. If we take connecting flights, we tend to prefer the flights that go connect in the US so that we do all the customs in Halifax. So, although sometimes I find seat sales with Westjet, they connect in Toronto. We usually only fly Westjet when it's direct to mco.

I have not flown with them since they added the fees for baggage. I have flown with Delta as well when they offered great seat sales. But I wouldn't recommend Delta since every flight we've had seems to be overbooked and they are constantly offering something for people to take later flights.

Hope it helps.

If you check that thread about airfare from the maratimes you can see that a few people got really good deals with Continental last spring. I think one person said they got return tickets including tax for low $300 per person. I am keeping an eye on them for my flights in Feb.

I find Kayak is a great site to check flights.

gilsan is correct. I bought March 16 2010 to March 29th for $329 cdn Taxes and fees included.

I would book these flights again in a heartbeat if I saw them for February 2011. No issues with Continental and Newark is fine with me (its old ... and you need to transfer terminals ... but once you figure how to do that ... it is fine)

I've not had any major problems with Continental and will be travelling with them in December for the annual WDW trip. I have booked the 6:30am flight out this time! :scared1: I love the idea that I'll be in Orlando before noon, but I hope the US Customs and the security people are going to take it easy on me that early. I won't have a coffee until I get to the departure lounge and it won't be a pretty sight!

Booked Continental for April, Halifax to Orlando, we are going to spend a couple of days there and then drive to Orlando.

last year my husband, son and I flew out of Halifax for about $1350.

We left Halifax around 6 or 7 am. Direct to MCO. We were eating lunch at Epcot Sunshine Terrace around 1 pm. After settling into our condo in Davenport.

We have flown to floriday with Air transat the last 3 out of 4 yrs and got awesome prices. We tend to wait to book until we find a deal.

I booked the $1350 last year on New years day. It was 199 per person before tax. I havent seen anything this good yet. The only problem is they only fly Feb, Mar, Apr and May.

I like Continental. I fly them from the west coast, drive down to Seattle. We are flying them again in Jan, Seattle - Florida for $325 RT
I'm another fan of Kayak to find the seat sales!

Ted-in-Halifax:

What terminals do they use in Newark, We are going Halifax-Newark-Myrtle Beach? We have1 hour 11 minutes between flights. Does this sound like enough time?

I have flown with Continental alot in the past few years and haven't had any real problems with them. Newark-Halifax and Halifax-Newark is on small jets (Embraers) which fly out of Newark Terminal A. We've always taken larger jets for the connection (Boeing 737 or 757) which fly out of Terminal C. So it usually depends on the size of the plane for which terminal it flies from.

I went to check our documents for further information but I couldn't find anywhere stating the terminals so I'm not really sure what else to tell you. Maybe call the travel agent if you used one, or call Continental.

When you arrive in EWR from YHZ you arrive in Terminal A. There is a shuttle bus that you get on to get to Terminal C. Using this bus avoids going through Security again!!! Terminal C has better places to eat .... so arrive in Terminal A ... get the bus and within 10 minutes you can be in Terminal C looking for a snack!

Remember ... take the Bus from A to C ... don't take the train

In the image below ... in the first image ... the dashed green line (with 7 on it) represents the Bus route

To stress what Ted just said, do NOT leave the security area of Terminal A. The shuttle bus leaves from gate 28 INSIDE the security area and arrives in Terminal C at gate 71 also INSIDE the security area. There are elevators and stairs that take you down to the ground level where you board the bus.

Thanks everyone, Before we leave I will see if I can find out what gates we use. I like to be prepared and have never gone through Newark.

We are flying Continental three weeks from tomorrow. :cheer2: I will post an update on the experience when we return. We have used them many times, many trips and no big complaints.

A word of advice, though... if you are over 35, or travelling with children and find your flight cancelled, forcing you to spend an unexpected night in Newark, don't be cheap, see about getting a room somewhere. Overnighting in the airport is just not that much fun!

It will be interesting to see if the merger with United has any noticable impact in service.

funny you mention the merger, we were on leg one of three in april on the way home and the pilot slipped and said welcome to united flight blah or something to that effect. the plane burst into laughter.

We too waited and booked on New Years day!! We got AC direct to MCO for $424 RTN per person taxes included and that was their Sat and Sunday direct flight prices. REALLY hoping something that good comes again..even if I have to wait again 'til New Years Day! :thumbsup2

Making a mental note..."check airlines on New Year's Day..." :thumbsup2 We have a booking now but I can always use the SW funds for something else, and a cheap flight without having to drive to NH in Feb sounds good to me! (Even if I end up clearing customs in the hated YYZ rather than St Stephen...)
