I am wondering if there is a time of week/month when airfares fluxuate (get cheaper!). We fly with Continental from Moncton NB but right now they are too expensive. We can save $500 flying out of Portland Maine, but that's not really ideal although we wouldn't hate it.

We've done both, just prefer flying from home.

keep watching them because they do fluctuate. Also watch Manchester. Search their flights at united.com for best results.

Thanks Ted, the year before last we flew out of Manchester and found it to be too long of a drive for the kids in one day. And another night in a hotel wouldn't make it really worth it (with meals) to fly out of the US, kwim?

I have been checking out of PWM and I have a fare right now of $1200, granted it's awful that we are picky with our flight times. But we are so it costs us a little more. Flights out of YQM are $2350. If either go down I will snatch them up, but I wondered if there was a particular time of week to look at the prices or if it could be of any hour of any day.

I'm watching too. Halifax is usually the cheapest Maritime flight. We'd do Bangor, but I don't like the additional drive to Portland, especially looking for March Break when the weather is iffy at best.

Yes for sure, we have done December twice now and have ALWAYS had issues with snow/sleet storms, both trips were out of Portland. The driving was not fun. So I do like September for that reason. The past 2 times we've gone the week before Thanksgiving, first year it was a nice hot, last year was melt your skin off hot. But I'd take that before the cool early summer visit we had our 2nd time down.

I also tell myself the end of September isn't too bad to take the kids out of school. I figure they aren't getting into anything too too heavy. *fingers crossed*. I'm a stickler for homework, so either way the work will get done.

Any idea of the prices out of Halifax ?

Prices out of Halifax range around $480 to $520 plus right now. I expect best price to be $380 (rare). I do see that Manchester NH has fares for as low as $192 now.

Dreaming of September again. Looking at Sept 14(evening flight), coming back on the 20th. Just can't seem to get enough of that place.

I know right, it's definitely addictive! After our last trip, 4th trip (which we flew out of Moncton) We said no way are we going back for a couple years. But we really miss it. I think it's the family time we miss? I dunno. We go camping often with our travel trailer...so.... I dunno. :)

I've been pricing out Continental and going on Kayak.com to compare different airlines in the US. So far, with adjustments to our dates, MAN is cheapest. BUT, the drive is killer for us. The difference between the fares out of YHZ and YQM isn't that much of one considering gas in our truck and hotel stays. That being said, there is still the cost of parking the truck at the airport. SO... if we want to spend over $2000 on airfare, we can fly from home. in theory. Because, again, we'd have to shuffle our dates around.

Off to go check today's airfares.:surfweb:
