Contemporary....Worth the $$$?

I provided the both sides of the resort, but you should realize that some adults want to entirely break away from work and anything associated to work. So while the conventions have meeting rooms they do spill out into the hallways and other areas as allowed. They norammly have other events were they gather after hours too. So you should keep in mind some people do not mind this while others may be upset to have this Corporate America environment spilling over into their hard earned vacation. I personally do not care, but on the other hand I avoid resorts conducting major construction projects considering the abundance of resort choices.
Well there are always going to be conventions going on at the Contemporary and if that bothers some guests, then maybe they should consider stayng at a Resort where there is no convention center. The same can be said about the Grand Floridian, Boardwalk, Yacht Club and Coronado Springs, since all those Resorts have convention centers. However I will always believe the other Resorts I mentioned are never mentioned about hosting conventions, because their themes are better then the Contemporary. So people use the conventions at the Contemporay as another reason not to like it, which I think is a double standard because I am sure the other Resorts hosts just as many conventions.

Their not asking about the other resorts and convention are a part of the CR setting. People who are considering a resort with conventions should be made aware of this setting. While you perceive the theme may be a factor I think for anyone inquiring about the CR have past that hurdle...the theme is the architectire with a great MK location.

Also, I think the resort layout and how the convention component is woven into the resort operation also plays a role too. I have never seen a convention particpants at the GF when they were going on, but I did at the CR, and Dolphin.

Overall, people need to make their own call of what is important to them and this is why I present my comments as balanced as possible.

Another YES vote for the Contemporary. I much prefer it to the BC and the POLY (the other two deluxes in which I've actually stayed). I gulped a bit when I re-booked it for December (at value prices) but it's worth it to me!

We've seen a few conventioneers with their name tags walking around the GF before, but that has never bothered us. I take that back---we couldn't get into Narcoosee's one evening because it was booked until 9:30 pm, by those conventioneers! :sad1:

We're planning on going back in late 2008 and I would LOVE to stay at the Contemporary (it's always been a dream of mine), but am really scared about the high prices. I've read mixed reviews of the resort, but it seems so convenient and elegant to me. Is it really worth the money?

I think that says it all. If it is somewhere that you have always wanted to go, you should go. Especially if you can afford it. You will always see mixed views on what is worth it and what is not. For what it is worth, we went last March ( and are going back in December) and the only thing I regret was that I didn't try this resort years ago. I loved being able to walk to MK, and the monorail is so close. I stayed in a tower room, and if you can afford it I think that is the way to go. Garden rooms are nice too, but when you are in the main building everything is an elevator ride away.

Yes! I know some people say that the refurbishments are definitely better, but I don't think so at all. It think the refurbishments won't tickle my fancy, but there needs to be refurbishments every once in a while, or else it wouldn't live up to the name of being contemporary. Just like when people whine about how there is no monorail service for Wilderness Lodge. If there was a monorail, then it wouldn't be wilderness at all.

Like the OP, it was my dream from childhood to stay at the CR. My family stayed offsite, during the two visits we had.

I chose to stay at CR for 2 nights in August before switching to a DVC stay (a) because the Garden Wing is a cheaper option for a family of 5 and (b) to make the dream come true.

We enjoyed it. We loved the chic modern room, and the convenience of the monorail. The pool did not thrill us but the kids had fun. But I am not dying to stay there again.

I think if it has been a dream you should definitely try to do it. I booked way ahead & got a rate I was happy with that way.

CR is by far my favorite, but on a side note, I can't stand the Poly or the GF

We stayed at CR in March of 2007. This was always a dream of my DH. We stayed on the 11th floor with a MK view. The view was amazing :thumbsup2 , nothing beat watch the castle change colors from your bed at night. However, besides the view and access to the monorail...we were :worried: very disappointed with the resort. Both of us did not care for the resort feeling, we disliked the rooms (especially the sinks), the food court and bar were average at best.

My DH loves deluxes, and we have stayed at mods and values as well. After our trip he was truly disappointed, and advised glad he did it once but never again. Our favorites are WL and BWI.

I have learned from this board to each his own, everyone has different likes and dislikes. If it is a dream, pixiedust: what better place than WDW to make it happen! If you truly want a recommendation our family's vote goes to WL.
