Contemporary vs Bay Lake Tower

I am looking at taking my family to Disney for a week in December 2022. I will be traveling with my wife, and two children (7 year old and 18 month old at time of travel). We wanted to stay within walking distance to Magic Kingdom especially having an infant with us, and we were looking at booking a theme park view room in case we can’t spend late nights at the park we can still view the fireworks. I’m looking at either booking a theme park view room at the contemporary or possibility doing a DVC theme park view rental at bay lake tower. Can anyone give a recommendation to which is the better route to go, and which has the better room and view.

Contemporary is a larger room, at a minimum. The BLT Studio is very small and you'll have very little room to move with the sofabed pulled out and a Pack N Play.

Depending on when in December, TPV studios can be difficult to rent even at exactly 11 months out, as December (the first two weeks, especially) are notoriously popular with DVC owners.

If you are looking at a 1- or 2-bedroom at BLT, I would choose that. Otherwise do the TPV room at CR.

You will most likely be able to rent a 1 bedroom TPV for just a bit more than a Tower TPV with rack rates (no discounts will likely be offered for that time of year). You just have to jump on it right at the 11 month mark.

while the studios at BLT are small, a pack and play does fit in the little kitchen area they have making it a semi secluded place for the little one to sleep…however you won’t be able to use the kitchen when pack and play is in there cause it takes up all the room!

I just stayed 2 nights for Halloween in the Contemporary Studiolake view. My DVC home is BLT . So I am very familiar with both locations.
I love both locations. The BLT studio does have a nice kitchenette .
Access to the monorail for Contemporary Guests is easier.
The Incredibles new design room is Incredible . Your family will love it.
The Splash pad is a lot of fun at the Contemporary and the pool has a bigger slide… butDecember weather would prob limit to the Splash Pad. I think BLT can use their Splash pad because it is not beyond the gated pool area at Contempory.
The fancy showers are incredible in the new rooms at the Contempory.

Really love both … but the Contemporary vs.BLT … DVC keeps that place booked up pretty early. How far in advance can you start booking cash reservations at either location? I think you will have better luck with the Contemporary MK view.

Thank you everyone for all the information. I was able to book a theme park view room in the contemporary tower for the December time I’m going next year so that spot it secure. I’m still going to consider doing the DVC rental since I am 13 months out and if I decide to go that route and get it I can always cancel the one I booked through Disney. I know it’s a bit cheaper to do the DVC rental, however maybe I’ll get lucky and catch a discount for the room I already have booked. I am very excited that the contemporary rooms got remodeled and are themed now, my 7 year old will love that, so I might just do that to get the feel of Disney.
