Just back and had breakfast at Chef Mickey's in the atrium, the area next to the restaurant was under construction and I don't mean an occasional hammer tap, we endured an hour of jack hammering, bone crushing noise. Only those who complained received a discount off their meal. I was told by the manager that resort guests were not previously notified of the construction and that the jack hammer had started at 8am (we were there from 11:15-12:15). I pity those hotel guests that were trying to sleep in and I'm sure only those who complained received discounts off their hotel bills. We passed thru CR around 5pm and the workers were gone so I think there was some evening peace.

Starting construction at 8:00 AM is acceptable. They have to start at some time. Every morning, we at home are woken up at 5:55 by the school bus stopping in front of our house (we have no children). Monday mornings, it's the trash guys at 7:00 AM. Every other week, it's the lawn guys right next door at 7:00 AM on Thursdays.

I can't tell you how many times we've been woken up at Disney World at 7:00 AM by families going off to breakfast or the parks and not being very quiet at all. I'd take construction noise at 8:00 AM any day.

This is noise from construction inside the tower, right? It's not from the new building? We are booked in a GW room for next week, but I'm thinking CM might be an annoying place to eat breakfast. Although, our ressie is 7:35, so I guess it won't matter.

The noise is the construction of the brand new counter service location on the 4th floor. So that means it has nothing to do with them building the Bay Lake Towers and it means you won't hear anything from the South Garden Wing.

I guess they need to work as much as possible to get it done! I didn't think we'd hear it from the GW. Just thought it might be annoying at CM. Which it might, but my kids can rival any jackhammer. :rotfl:

You know, for the most part we are up and at it before 8:00 am anyway. My girls are up and ready to "find the mouse" pretty early. My biggest concern is afternoon naps. We generally come back mid afternoon to rest/nap/recharge prior to dinner and evening activities. This is the only way my girls make it until Wishes. Which watching from room @ CR is the best. Baths & PJ's, fireworks, bedtime. Nothing better. We arrive 9/1 so maybe the bulk of the jackhammering will be reduced to just "regular" hammering. No plans to dine at CM so not an issue there. I'm looking forward to posts from visitors over the next two weeks for updates prior to our arrival. Keep'em coming!!

We saw the construction when we were at the CR a couple of weeks ago. I admit it was bad. Noisy, ugly, etc. But I'm not sure how else they could build this new food place any other way. They've got to do it at some time... and from 8 to 5 seems reasonable. I'm just hoping it's done by the time we get there in October.

How about doing it in January or some other slow time. Paying the rates Disney charges you shouldn't have to deal with jack hammers, concrete saws etc. Remember we are here on vacation to get away from the daily grind!
Not only that but the construction guys did more sititng than working while we were there.

How about they don't do it all, let the place go. No new upgrades or anything. Then this way everyone will have even more to complain about.

The work has to get done, would it be fair to someone in January who goes to get away from it all? If I would have saw construction I would have thought "gee lets see, do I endure or do I change plans". I guess I just don't let things get to me like that.

That is good information and I am glad you shared it. If I was sleeping in, I would have been very upset to be woken up to that.

Disney should warn guests about it. Leave it up to the guests if they want to stay put or move elsewhere.

That's a great observation. No matter what the construction needs to get done, so it will upset some guests and it won't matter what month it takes place. Last August my family and I stayed at the Contemporary when they were building the new Fantasia store on the 4th floor which was not bad at all and it's a coincidence that when we check-in on Monday they will be working on the new counter service location. However we won't let that effect our stay there.

OK, let me get this straight. Do it in January, when you are not there and then it is OK. I know, you are on vacation to get away from the daily grind but the people in January aren't. Right?

there was a post on one of the threads today of the construction noise on youtube....the ones I feel sorry for is the CMs that have to listen to it their entire shift...at least as guests we can leave and go to the parks for the day

I think the proper thing for CRO to do, is to WARN people ahead of time, that way they can make a choice. If they choose to stay there and hear the noise, oh well, they were warned. But they can choose to stay somewhere else before they make that decision. That is what the AKL did for all the construction that was done in Jambo house when building the DVC rooms.

AMEN!! We were there 7/30-8/4 and had the great displeasure of having metal scaffolding erected right outside our room in the middle of the night, in addition to the jackhammering during the day (but that's another thread!! :goodvibes ). What made me the most irritated by it was that there was no warning when I booked it, which was only 16 days before we checked in. Based on my experience and that of others in recent weeks, CRO seems to have no info on the construction and they aren't taking any steps whatsoever to notify guests and offer them an option to stay elsewhere. Its totally unacceptable. I sent a letter the CR GM a week and half ago about my specific situation and have yet to hear anything back. My issues with the CR have grown from frustration, to anger, to total disgust over the past 2 1/2 weeks, and I'm disappointed to see that they are continuing to ruin other people's vacations by simply not warning customers and giving them the option to choose a different hotel.

1) Alas, maintenance-enhancements-upgrades must happen.
2) I don't know if there is a better time or a worse time.
3) At least they waited until 8:00am.

Thanks for the tip. I hadn't seen the video, but I found it. Here's the link for any of you who are interested. The key is to watch it for at least 45-50 seconds. When it first comes on, it sounds like wind or some other humming or issue with the microphone, but that is the concrete drilling/jackhammering. You can then hear a saw start up. And then at about 45-50 seconds in, they both stop momentarily and you can hear how quiet it gets. You can't tell just how loud it is until it gets quiet. That's exactly what they were doing 2 weeks ago and it doesn't look like they've made much progress in that time.
