Just booked my trip for 2016. First time staying at the contemporary south wing.

I have read good and bad. Any thoughts here? I really like the idea of being close to MK and the monorail.

I have been moved from the WL to Contemporary because of the construction in Oct/Nov This year. I have done my research and I am really looking forward to it, the rooms appear to be the same as in the tower. Are you in standard room or garden view? we are garden view. I'll be able to give you a full report after I come home. The bad comments were manly the distance from the rooms to the main building but i've stayed at OKW and the distance was much longer but we didn't mind. Ive used youtube to get more of an idea, i have added some links below. We are looking forward to the walk to and from MK.

Walk from mani building:

Hope it helps x

we had garden view room and were basically as far away from the tower as we could be. we loved it! it was so quiet, looked out side our room to all green and water, no other buildings, parking lots, people or noise! we could see the electrical water parade thingy come by each night just 20 feet outside our room.

yes, it is a walk to the main building and it is not connected so at some point you do need to go outside. if i recall correctly, the outdoor part is covered. we tended to just go outside from the door closest to our room and walk by the lake, pool and then into the main building as it was more direct than going inside thru the hallways.

as for adding time to your walk to mk, it made a 6 min walk maybe a 12 min walk, not a negative for us when we valued the privacy, view and quietness more. we would walk over and watch the fireworks either from the stairs of the tower or the front lawn. can't beat that view!!!

I have stayed in CR tower and the South Wing. I actually enjoyed South Wing better. The tower is amazing -- but so frenetic. It's practically dizzying with all the commotion. The South Wing is quieter, and still resort-y. You do have a short walk to get to the tower for transportation or food, but unless its pouring rain, it's a very pleasant walk (and quick).

We stayed in the South Wing a few years ago and really loved it. It was so quiet and peaceful. We had garden view and requested first floor. We were right on the water--The Water Pageant was literally right outside our door.

Yes, it was a longer walk because it's more removed from the Tower. But it wasn't really bad at all. I would say it's my favorite of all of the places we've stayed.

We loved the south wing. I'm kind of surprised at the comments saying it's a much longer walk to magic kingdom. We thought it was pretty quick and no wait for the elevator. Much shorter than waiting for a bus or monorail. Rooms are great and our stay was very quiet. We had a great view of the light parade too.

Thats really good to know :)

I agree with the previous posters above on the quietness of these rooms. We liked it because it was away from the craziness of the Tower. We were first floor GV so while it may have added a few mins walking to MK, we didn't have to deal with an elevator. It was also a very short walk to the pool.

If we were to stay at CR again, I would pick a GW room again.

Can you remember the room number you was in? I am going to send a few room requests before we go x

By first floor do you mean ground?

Sorry I can't remember the room number but want to say somewhere in the 30s based on touring plans.com. We faced away from the rest of the resort, on the right hand side, near the water/bay. We were near the further entrance from the parking lot (but closer to the pool). And yes ground floor.

I *loved* our room in the south wing. The only thing between us and the water was a small sidewalk and a little strip of beach. Such an amazing and peaceful view (just wish we'd had a bottom floor so we could sit on a patio since the upper floors only have a pseudo balcony.

You may be a little farther from the monorail and MK, but as a lazy person I can tell you it wasn't a big haul. What people forget though is that in the SW you are closer to the pool, marina and beach. I'd rather walk further to the monorail than have to walk in a wet bathing suit through the tower ;)

Loved the south wing. We had a patio so the kids were able to,sit outside or play without being cramped up in a room during downtime, plus close to pool and beach area, watch electric water parade from patio too. It wasn't a far walk at all to the tower. Would pick it again over the tower for those reasons alone.

We stayed in the South Wing last year after being moved from WL due to pool construction. We absolutely loved CR and it was not a big deal to be away from the main building. It was a short walk to get there and the room was quiet. Would definitely stay there again. During our stay, we visited WL a couple of times for dining and to see what we were missing out on due to being moved. I was not impressed with WL at all. The lobby seemed small and cramped. The worst part was the boat transportation to and from WL. It was awful. It took forever and they had very few boats in service. After that experience, I will never elect to stay at WL.

Last year we did the CR Garden Wing because the Poly was under construction. Loved it! I take it you mean the Garden Wing right? I don't think they've been the North Wing / South Wing since the North Wing was bulldozed. The extra walk is not relevant to me. In the Tower, you need to take the Elevator down. In the Garden Wing, you have to walk a little further. It was incredibly convenient to walk to the MK. Some say 10 min... I'd say realistically give 15-20 min. Unless you're power-walkers. Breakfast is a 5 min walk to the main building, then up some escalators or elevators. Monorail is walk to the main building, then up a different elevator. You get a private parking lot which is kind of nice. I really can't think of any drawbacks to staying here. Maybe that there's a lot of concrete. It's definitely very contemporary in that regard, not surprisingly. :) The beach is nice too. And you can boat directly to the HDDR / ByBBQ, or hop the P&P voyage. Lots of activity here, being in the heart of it all.
