Contemporary questions

A post from the other day about the Contemporary and WL got us to thinking. We really love the Contemporary. We feel like it is our home at WDW because we have stayed there so many times. We decided to stay at WL because of the price difference. Well....... after reading that post about the Cont. vs. WL we decided to stay at the Contemporary. We got AAA rate for 4 of the 6 nights we needed, can't get the other two nights at all. We kept the WL for the last two nights but are hoping that we can somehow add the Cont. by calling EVERY day.
Anyway, has anyone stayed at the Contemporary recently? Is the construction noisy or in the way? The CM said that the tennis courts, the playground and the laundry room in the North wing is closed(duh!! it's not even there anymore). We wouldn't need any of these. Is the place where you can get food 24 hours still open? Anything else we should be aware of?

There's a major rehab that's getting ready to start in and around the Tower which will include the lobby, landscaping, and the Grand Canyon Concourse. The Food & Fun Center on the 1st floor will be closing in June and its replacement will not be opening until August 2008.

Here's the schedule of the rehabs at the Contemporary. By the way, I see you're from South Carolina!

August 2007 - Newly renovated Fantasia Shop will re-open.

June 11, 2007 through November 2007 - The Lobby will undergo partitioned refurbishments to update the area's image and decor.

July 2007 through October 2007 - The resort's grounds will undergo partitioned refurbishments to install new landscaping and re-route existing guests paths.

July 30, 2007 through April 2008 - The Food & Fun Center will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as a new table service option, "The Wave". During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

April 2008 through August 14, 2008 -The Concourse Steak house will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as the new Counter Service location for the resort. During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

Thanks!! I didn't realize that they would be doing anything to the lobby. Sounds like they are changing EVERYTHING about the Contemporary. It might not seem like home in WDW anymore. I guess we will give it a shot though. From the time frame you listed, they will still have a temporary eating place. We like getting something as we come in at night sometimes.

My family and I stayed at the Contemporary last December when they were in the begining process of demolishing the North Garden Wing and I can tell you there was no noise from there. One big reason for that is it does not effect anyone who stays in the Tower or South Garden Wing. Plus when you walk by it there is a huge fence that covers up all the construction. So the only way to see what is happening there, is when your ridding the Monorail or if you choose to look it from the windows of the 4th floor.

Since they have not started the next phase of renovations according to that schedule no one knows what it's going to be like. However my family and I will be staying at the Contemporary this August and I can write a live report on how things are going in terms of what it's like in the lobby and how the temporary counter service location is.

I actually hadn't realized that there was going to be so much ongoing refurbishment inside and out (near and around the main tower).

That said, I didn't find the construction overly noisy - even though there was a lot going on yesterday. Nobody seemed bothered by it at all, the noise was all pretty far from the pool area.
