Hey,

Just been looking at Complete Orlando. They are quoting 2 weeks 1st August - 15th August 2012 for £3,200 at the Contemporary (on the monorail!!!!) I think that's a pretty good price, but wanted to check it out with you guys. What do you think? The total price is £4200 with dining plan and 14 day ultimate ticket.

I think it's a good price - it was certainly cheaper then a quote direct from Disney.

Arghh - don't know what to do!! That leaves me around than £2k for flights for the 4 of us......

I know it's a good price if I think it's a good price, but how does it compare?

That sounds a good price to me-although I dont think £2000 is quite enough to get all 4 seats (depends on ages)
we usually only do packages but I thought flights were about £600 each

weve paid approx £6,000 for this years trip with Virgin. we found complete orlando were a lot more than virgin when we looked.
weve always stayed at the Contemporary-so I check the prices yearly.

Its a great location and I think its worth the money. :wizard:

good luck with whatever you decide to do. we're off there in a couple of weeks :cool1:

It sounds like a good price to me - can I just ask whether you have ever looked into DVC? The reason I say that is because I see that you normally stay in the deluxe Disney hotels, and I was all booked to stay at the Poly and Beach Club last christmas and then realised that that was a huge 'chunk' of money I could put towards DVC!!!:thumbsup2

I know DVC isn't for everyone, but I do feel that it is a great way to go if, like me, you always choose deluxe disney accomodation.

Sorry to go off topic, and forgive me if you have looked into it before and have decided against it (as I say, I know its not right for everyone:)) - but I was just struck by your post and thought about how you seem to vacation in a similar way to how we used to.

Anyway, just a thought!!.....;)

That is probably a good price for the Contemporary, however I don't think £2K is enough to get flights for 4 of you on those dates.

Hi - i've never really given it any serious consideration, with it being a timeshare etc.

Rack rate in the US for August is $365 a night - so you are basically paying 10% under rack rate which is good as rack at $1.6 is about £3500.

It is worth looking at renting points perhaps as well problem is though you would have to pay for dining . Is the polynesian and boardwalk around the same price? Its a personal choice but I think all us disney buffs dream of staying on the monorail link at some point.I want the poly or GF:happytv:

That seems like a pretty good price. You could also rent dvc points for the 14 nights at Blt with a mk view for about $3800, that would save quite a bit.

How do you do that?

You would need to check the DVC rent/trade board to see if anyone is offering BLT points to rent - going for a non-BLT owner might make it harder to get what you want at the 7-month mark.

What you would be asking for is a reservation for a BLT studio for the dates you require (for a standard studio for 14 nights in the latter part of August (16-31), that would require 246 points). You should expect to pay around $12 per point for BLT so approx $3000 for 14 nights. The earlier part of August would require slightly more points (278) so around $3336. Obviously, that won't include the Dining Plan or any tickets so you would need to factor those costs in when comparing. However, personally, I think the studio at BLT would be a far superior accommodation to the garden wing room at contemporary.

In theory it sounds great, however in practice it is not quite as simple as just renting points from a member. Cancellation terms when renting points may be very different. Depending on who you rent from, they may not offer a refund if you cancel. certainly, you will be hard pushed to find any member who will refund if you cancel within a certain number of days of your trip. As far as payment is concerned, you may be expected to pay in full in advance or at least 50% when reservation is made and remainder a certain number of months before your trip. You will be relying on the DVC member to make the reservation and any changes, such as adding on dining plan, Magical Express, etc. and you would not be able to deal direct with Disney regarding your reservation.

There is also, obviously, a risk factor from your side of things. There have been a very small number of cases where somebody has rented from a member and the member has disappeared with their moeny, leaving them with no reservation. In these cases Disney will not get involved either. They are simply not interested in private arrangements between a DVC member and A N Other.

Having said all of that, our very first experience of DVC was through a rental. It all went very smoothly, the guy we rented from was very reliable and it was a great experience - in fact, it prompted us to buy into DVC ourselves.

If you want any more info feel free to drop me a PM.

I have rented a few times now always from a UK member and never had any issues. We have stayed at deluxe resorts at a fraction of the cost.Yes you have to pay the DDP if wanted but they can now split the stay so you could have perhaps half your time with the DDP and the other without. This means you can eat off site or if your doing seaworld etc universal and not worry abt loosing credits.
A bit of a pain for the renter but they will do it.You would also need to pay upfront if you do have the DDP.They will probably have a deposit off you when booked and the rest will be arranged.
Still a good deal from CO.You have to weigh up what you want to do.

Personally for 2 adults/2 children a standard room at the Contemporary would be much more comfortable. They are larger, have 2 queen beds plus day bed.

If you were talking about a one bedroom then there is no comparison but having stayed in a BLT studio then in a regular room at the Contemporary on the same trip - the rooms at the Contemporary are much larger.

Thanks for the replies.

I'm not really that happy with a studio with it being a sofa bed for the kids. I'm going to keep my fingers crossed that CO keep the Contemporary at that price when I can look at flights in September!!!!

Thanks again. :thumbsup2
