Pardon me if I'm in the wrong section or if this has been asked a thousand times. I'm usually not on this board.

My question is this.......I know Disney hasn't announced any numbers yet or anything, they are still selling AKL DVC, right? But, if you were to guess, when do you think they will start selling DVC for the Cont. tower?

I guess my real question is, do you think I will have a few years before the cont. dvc is sold out? I would love to buy into that one, but I wouldn't want to finance it, so I need more time to save up.

Sorry if it's a dumb question, but I know there's always speculation on these boards that can turn out to be pretty accurate. Just wondering what the rumors are.

Of course this is pure speculation...

I would expect the points to not cost significantly more than the current base price ($104 for AKV I believe). There will probably be some level of premium because of the (real or perceived) value of the resort, and its relative size compared to AKV/SSR (thus limiting supply in relation to demand). But they won't cost twice as much.

Instead, I'd expect the points costs for a room to be higher than previous resorts. This would increase the points supply at the same price point.

But this is a wild guess.

We might get some idea when the price and points charts come out for GCV.

Edit: I totally misread the question...I thought it was on price speculation...

I doubt they will even start selling Kingdom Towers until either AKV or GCV sells out, and then it will be a toss up as to whether they will start selling Disney Ko'Olina in Hawaii or Kingdom Towers next. At any rate, I think you will have at least a year and maybe more before it even becomes available for sale.

guessing

the annoucement will be in May

sales will start in 2009.

the resort won't open until late 2009 or 2010.

no guarantees that this will be a DVC resort. Wishing!!!!:wizard: It will be - but again with DVC no guarantees.

Even after the resort is sold out, you'll still be able to buy in via the resale market, so don't feel that you have to buy before you're financially ready.

There are always people who buy and then change their minds, or suffer a financial problem, or divorce, and decide to sell their DVC contract.

Had dinner at Californina Grill a week ago tonight...waiter told us that it was DVC and would be complete in 2009....how reliable is the info????? Just thought I'd pass it along.

So sorry, but what is GCV?

Also, does Disney start selling contracts before the project is completed or do they have to wait until it is finished?

thank you all for the info. :)

Oh, believe you me, I won't!! Dh and I used to be in debt up to our eyeballs (can you say "law school" and "sole proprietor", ie. business loans?)...not anymore, not even for cars. Dh just paid cash for his 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. I never want to live like that again. That's why I want to be able to buy DVC without financing it.

I'm still running the numbers. Not totally sure we even want to do this but an MK/monorail resort would be the only one I was interested in. (no offense to the other resorts...they are all beautiful)

florida law says 70% of the building must be completely before sales start (or it did).

that will happen shortly.

but still not expecting sales to begin until next year.

I admire your willingness to wait to pay cash. It is refreshing to know that there are responsible folks out there. MY DH and I own our own business. Those lean (very lean) years in the beginning taught us a lot. Kudos to you! Like mentioned before, you can always buy in the resale market. So relax and take this time to learn what you can about DVC. We did and it took us five years before we knew it was right for us. It still took the announcement of the GCV to give us the nudge. We know we were going to make it to DLR every year and we go to WDW every other year. So the current deal with the Founding Members worked for us and we are in a much better financial situation than even five years ago.

It looks like the CKT is alot further along than GCV..unless I am missing pictures posted somewhere. Wouldn't it make sense to start selling CKT first since it's much closer to completion? That said..how far out do they announce when sales will start..or do they just announce sales are starting NOW without any notice?
How much of a jump in buying do GCV founders have over the rest of us? 60 days? did I read that?

What are the big pillars next to the Kingdom Tower construction? Looks like monorail pillars. We were just there this week and were trying to figure out if it will hold some sort of walkway....but they are so tall. Anyone know?

Take it for what it's worth, but I talked to a DVC rep a couple weeks ago and got some interesting info. This rep is my sister's rep, and has always been straight with me. Here are the highlights:

"IF... we happen to sell at Contemporary, it probably wouldn't happen until late summer 2008".

"I'll put you on the list of people who are interested in new projects as they are announced, I currently have 200 people on this list myself and there are 150 reps who do what I do."

"GCV and Hawaii won't impact when something would be announced in the Orlando area if something in the Orlando area were to be announced, they are in different markets. The only things that would affect an announcment if there were to be an announcement made would be the other Orlando projects" (in other words, they'll wait until SSR is sold out)

I thought all this felt a little salesy (I'm in sales myself and have a decent sense of a pitch) so I fished a little. I let the rep know that I'm ready to buy now, if I could put money down on Kingdom Towers to hold a spot I would. I'm also interested in two separate 160 point contracts in case I want to sell off some points on a resale market someday. In essence, baiting him into telling me how great the current deal on SSR or AKL is. Instead, the reply was:

"If you want to stay at the Contemporary, I'd suggest two contracts at the Contemproray".

The rep went on to talk about talk about the size of Kingdom Towers relative to the other resorts, and the demand they are seeing for it now. I also let him know we might be taking a trip early next year and wondered if there would be any specials going on if we took a tour etc. The reply:

"If a project at the Contemporary is announced, I wouldn't wait a couple months. I'd jump on it as soon as possible."

In so many words, it was implied that the cost per point would be in line with current pricing, perhaps a few dollars more per point. The "premium" will be on the point charts, and this may effect the minimum point purchase amount.

A couple weeks ago (maybe a month ago) there was a link floating around from the Orlando Sentinel saying that Disney is actually allowed to start selling timeshares at the Contemporary. I think that the 70% law was repealed, not sure about that.

As I said at the beginning, take all this for what it's worth. I'm just passing along the info I got from a phone call.

Chris

-I applaud the idea of saving up to make a cash purchase, it's really a matter of how fast can you save. As others have said, there will be a resale market even if it sells out before you can make the purchase so I wouldn't stress out about it.

From the designs I have seen posted by other members, it looks like the pillars are for a walkway to the main building.

IMO, if you are talking about 3 years, absolutely not!!!....If this is going on sale in 2009, i think it may sell out quicker then any resort to date... I cant wait to stay there:yay:
