Is it possible to go to the top of the Contemporary for just a drink and watch wishes? My plan is going from HS to there in time to watch wishes from the top...any suggestions on what time to get on the Contemporary bus at HS to get to the top and drink in hand in time for Wishes?

Do you mean to the California Grill restaurant?

Technically it is possible because they do permit guests to access the lounge without a reservation.

However, they will not allow this if the lounge is full. You would have to check at the second floor desk for the California Grill and have them determine if there is space for you to go up to the restaurant. Around fireworks time is usually when they stop allowing access for those without reservations. You could likely pull a lounge seat for fireworks off only if you go much earlier than the fireworks show and plan to stay awhile. You can order from the full menu in the lounge and bar, if that interests you.

I don't know if I would suggest you go straight over to the Contemporary from DHS around time for Wishes with the intention of watching Wishes from the lounge at California Grill. You would most likely need to get there well before Wishes starts, or you may be turned away at the second floor desk. I'd suggest you arrive there no later than two hours prior to the show, an hour and a half at most.

I second the above poster, but keep in mind it depends on when you go. If in a slower time, while reservations will likely be just as booked, I doubt you'd need more than an hour.

Why not just make reservations and then inform the hostess you'd just like a seat at the bar? Although the view from the bar isn't great. More than likely you'd want to get a drink and then go out on the patio.

If you are not able to get up to the California Grill bar you can always purchase a drink at the Outer Rim Lounge which is located on the 4th floor and you can then walk over to the observation deck over there to watch Wishes.

Ok I know this thread is older but it caught my eye....drinks, Contemporary....etc...lol....
ACTUALLY I found on my last visit in December..the BEST place to watch Wishes , Mr R. is on the beach of the Polynesian...get there about an hour early...grab a Lapu Lapu..yea the one in the big pineapple and head out to one of the lounge chairs on the beach and wait.....its relaxing, perfect view and best drink around in hand.....
Just my two cents.......I plan to repeat this practice on my upcoming solo trip.....at least one evening.....it's now a tradition of mine.....
