Contemporary construction

Anyone have pics of what's been going on at the Contemporary as far as construction? I'd like to see what I've been missing until my trip in July! Thanks!

August 2007 - Newly renovated Fantasia Shop will re-open.

June 11, 2007 through November 2007 - The Lobby will undergo partitioned refurbishments to update the area's image and decor.

July 2007 through October 2007 - The resort's grounds will undergo partitioned refurbishments to install new landscaping and re-route existing guests paths.

July 30, 2007 through April 2008 - The Food & Fun Center will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as a new table service option, "The Wave". During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

April 2008 through August 14, 2008 -The Concourse Steak house will be closed for major renovations. The location will re-open as the new Counter Service location for the resort. During this time a temporary counter service location will be operating on the Grand Concourse level near the Outer Rim Lounge.

I don't think anyone can really answer that right now, because WDW has not officially announced the DVC building for the Contemporary and those pictures of what the building will look like is only speculation of what it's going to be.

As CR Fan mentioned, no one really knows for sure. There were several images of the CR DVC Tower which leaked out on the web several months ago. These images suggest that the DVC Tower would be 16 floors which would eclipse the original Tower by one floor.

I'll be there in August too... my boyfriend and I are splurging on a deluxe resort for the first time (I've mostly stayed at the moderates) The only three deluxes I can afford are the CM, WL and the AKL. I really wanted to feel like I was right in the middle of everything and was SOOO excited about staying at the CM. But now im nervous with all this construction. Is it going to ruin our vacation? Should we switch resorts?????

We were supposed to be there in Dec. and I was very nervous about construction, so we changed resorts and are now at GF, only now I'm nervous about that, as they are now refurbing over there. Maybe Disney doesn't want me this year!!!

So does this confirm that there will be no hot takeout food available and no mugs during this time period? If so, I think we may consider changing resorts.

No, that just means there will be a smaller venue for hot takeout food and mug refills. If you read down a little more it says there will be a temporary counter service restaurant put in place on the concourse. The only thing you really have to worry about construction wise during that period is whatever they are building where the north garden wing used to be. The renovations of the Food and Fun Center will be in the lobby which isn't too bothersome. It will get more intrusive once they start reconfiguring the Concourse Steakhouse, Chef Mickey's, and the Outer Rim Lounge.

No one really knows. We'll have to wait until July 30 when the Food & Fun Center closes. I'm sure people will post the menu when the temporary place opens on the 4th floor. I can tell you that when the counter service restuarants at the Poy and Wilderness Lodge were recently rehabed, there were not any hot items available at the temporary locations nor were there any refillable mugs.

We just got back and the North wing is no longer there. Looked like they were starting to put in the foundations for the new building.

I guess my family and I have different views when it comes to the upcoming construction. Since we will be on the Atrium Club we will have access to all the foods they offer during the day and if the temporary counter service location does not serve hot food, we don't mind taking the Monorail to get something at the Polynesian or Grand Floridian. As for the lobby being renovated we hardly spend anytime there so that is not a concern we have. Finally since we have already stayed there when they were working where the North Garden Wing use to be, we know from experience that it does not effect any guests staying in the Tower and South Garden Wing and since there is the huge fence around it, no one is forced to look at the construction unless they wanted to from the Monorail or from the windows of the 4th floor.

I wouldn't worry so much about a refurb at GF. It will be inside for the most part, and the buildings are separate there, so it probably won't impact you that much. I haven't heard that there will be any work on the lobby area, unlike what we keep hearing about CR. It's a little different than a resort shutting down restaurants so you have to go elsewhere to eat. I don't blame you for moving from CR to GF for that reason.

If you look at the schedule of renovations for the Contemporary when mom2taylorandemily is at WDW in December, the only thing effected is the Food & Fun Center because the temporary location will still be open. However the lobby construction is set to be completed in November, assuming they stick by that schedule. So the Concourse Steakhouse will still be open so there is no renovating on the 4th floor at the time and the only inside renovation would be where the Food & Fun Center use to be and I would assume it will be all closed off where no guests can walk threw.

When it comes to the Grand Floridian renovation no one knows when it's going to start and there is no schedule that was released which says which way they will work, the way one was released for the Contemporary.
