Contemplating getting an artificial tree....

It was a hard decision to make, switching to an artificial tree, but we did so last Christmas. I got tired of the real tree drying out so quickly and the disposal aspects of the real tree.

I'm glad I switched.

I had never seen one of those trees, until I was about 15 years old...my step mothers parents had one and I thought it was the neatest thing!!

They apparently had several different colors of the aluminum trees to put in the base...and it would rotate and play Christmas carols...I just think it was so cool!!

I would love to find one...anyone have any idea where I could start? I will check ebay...

They're considered kitchy collectables now, and the price tag is kind of high. I actually thought about buying one for the nostalgia value, but the price turned me off quickly. Also, your Stepgrandparents had a fancier version of aluminum tree than we did; ours didn't have a musical colorwheel!

We have an artificial since hubby has allergies. I can't imagine trying to haul a 9 foot tree home from a tree lot in any of our cars. Plus, I don't have to worry about the doggies drinking nasty water from the stand. Growing up we always had a real tree and my parents worried about fires. We could not get our tree until after my mother's birthday (Dec. 16). Christmas day, we were allowed to have the lights on only during present opening and photos. It is so nice to put my tree up early and take it down at my leisure. Plus, I don't have a tree carcass sitting in front of my house for weeks!
