OK - Dear wife & I already have 270 BRV points, direct from Disney, APR use year...

Recently announced 2020 Point Charts show point inflation to the tune of about 30 Points/Year.
In the event I wished to buy 30 more points FOR BRV, same use year?

How would I do so? Could be Disney, could be resale.

More data: We always go to WDW in APR-MAY, and in NOV (pre thanksgiving). Two trips per year, every year.

30 points in same UY? I would go direct. I would call up my guide right now!

Still, I am sorry this has happened. Could you adjust anything to avoid the purchase? Also others may tell you to buy a cushion, there may be more bad news for 2021. The difference between direct and resale is pretty wide. Still, I would go direct.

Direct. Finding 30 resale is unlikely on same UY and what you might save will get eaten by closing.

Now and then a resale of that size might pop up for BRV but they're not real common from what I've seen. Direct would be best option. They might have to put you on a purchase waitlist though if they don't have the points.

Bobbi also had a good point to maybe wait until next year and see if this happens again. Wouldn't be so fun to find out you were short say another 10 points but had to buy the minimum 25 to get up to where you could still get your room yearly. 50 points resale is a bit more common than 30 and might be more economical if that ends up being closer to the amount you ultimately require.

If you want resale, you should contact ALL the brokers and get on a notify list ASAP. Contracts of that size go FAST, often before they are posted anywhere due to direct notification by e-mail. Be sure to check the current closing fees both on direct and resale to be sure you are getting a fair deal. Good luck. Also you may want to get a few extra points, you know they are going to stick it to us again for the next year or 2.

For what's worth... I was debating adding on a small contract myself. Based on the resale cost it looks cheaper, however you need to consider a few things:

- Closing costs and fees of around $550 meaning $10 to $20 per point for a small contract.
- Small resale contracts may be stripped.
- Buying direct will have smaller closing costs, however with the Disney Credit Card you could offset this with their $250 bonus for spending a minimum of $500. This will result in only $1 or $2 per point for closing costs.
- Buying direct will give you 2018 without paying annual fees (Subtract these dues from the direct per point pricing).

In my case for AKV, a resale price for a 25 point contract would be around 135 to 145 per point. Plus $20 per point for closing costs means 155 to 165 per point. If 2018 points are still available this would be 6.76 per per point meaning, I'm now up to 161.76 to 171.76. Direct pricing for AKV is 171 a point with no annual dues for 2018 points (171-6.76 =165.76). Add in 2 per point for closing due to Disney credit card incentive and I'm in the 167.76 range. The Disney credit card also has 0% interest for 6 months on Direct DVC purchases.

Bottom line is small contracts may be cheaper or close to it by going direct.

Buying from Disney is extremely easy and convenient but the convenience does come at a cost, For a small points contract the difference between resale and direct shouldn't be that bad and unless saving money is the ultimate goal, I'd choose direct. A few years back, I contacted Disney about some BRV points and within a week they were available. Of course during that week, the news about CCV broke, so I opted to wait for CCV instead. Anyway, buying from DVC only takes a phone call. Buying resale could be time consuming but you will save a few dollars. Good luck!

MANY thanks to all :). I needed this data, and you have done a GREAT job providing it :).

BEST option is likely direct. Dear wife & I have talked about this - and as we are 66, and have HIT "break even"?
We've decided to starve WDW. We will trim our APR-MAY vacation. When "point inflation" prevents us from staying 6 nights for the Spring trip? We will cut back to one NOV trip. We did the math - WDW looses about $450 per day. Their choice - perhaps someone else will make this up :).

So - just us... we are older (66), DVC is now MAKING us money, vs discounted rooms... not buying more points. Instead? Providing DVC what they asked for.... our absence.

We bought a contract - which appears to no longer be an honest contract. Once in a hole? Stop digging :). And starting to warn Friends & Family about DVC "point inflation". It sort of negates the value of DVC.

Dean Marino, I'm glad you found a solution that works for you. Best wishes! -joe
