Five of us, all adults, are going to the World for 5 nights between Christmas and New Year 2008. :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: :santa: We will be staying in 3 rooms at a monorail resort. Right now we have 3 Magic Kingdom View rooms at the Contemporary. Two of us were thinking it would be fun to stay at the Poly.

What are the pros and cons of each in your opinion. No detail is too small if it matters to you.

Personally I would keep the Magic Kingdom view room at the Contemporary because it's the best possible view you can get anywhere in WDW and what's great about it is you can see the fireworks from the Magic Kingdom on New Years Eve, so no having to fight the crowds if you don't want to be in the park.

Polynesian:

- Excellent Pacific island theming
- More inviting grounds
- Relaxing oasis/break from the action
- Tropical drinks where they were meant to be enjoyed
- Live lounge music with a Polynesian vibe
- Beaches to stroll with a Magic Kingdom view
- Walk to Grand Floridian to enjoy the spa or a change of pace
- Torches lighting the walkways during glorious evenings
- Fireworks and music piped in at the beach
- South Pacific music scattered here and there
- 'Ohana and Kona!

We prefer the Poly over the CR, but we are sure you would be happy at either one.

Thanks everyone for the quick replies! I think if it were just me and DNiece going we would stay at the Poly for all the atmosphere there, but since we are currently out-voted in our group of 5, I think we will be happy at the CR, especially since we can go check out the Poly anytime we want. Maybe we will schedule a dinner at the Poly and then see Wishes and the boat lights (what ever they are called -I forgot )from there one night! After all we will be able to see them from our room on all the other nights- if not from the Parks.

In November I stayed at The Poly and yes, the atmosphere had a fun retro feel and the pool was really nice BUT..my room was disappointing. The previous guests smoked in it..and the Poly tried to clean it but when we checked in The carpet was still wet from being washed.. It stayed damp throughout our stay and turned into a mildew smell..I asked to be moved but they had no other rooms available..or so they claimed...The hallways and elevators need to be redone, as well. I know there are diehard fans of the Poly on this site..I am just not one of them. I am looking forward to my MK view at The CR this August..the rooms are bright and newly redone..have a great trip! ;)

Exactly.

CR = Convenient. Poly = Beautiful and fun.

I think that sounds like a good idea to make some ADR's for the Poly and I am sure once you are at the Contemporary and see the view you get you will have made the right decision to stay there.

How far is the walk from the Poly to the Grand Floridian? Is there a trail? This will be our first stay at the Poly and I was wondering if you could walk to the GF.

It's about a 5 - 10 minute walk and you just walk along the beach and a side walk, so just follow the signs towards there.

We prefer the Poly over CR. They are both beautiful resorts. For us the CR seems so crowded and conjested all the time. We like the laid back casual feel of the Poly and everything else mentioned in the others posts. :)

How are the views of Wishes from Poly? Good views from the beach and from the rooms, or too far away?

Also, I understand music is piped in to the beach area. But what about in the rooms? Is there a channel on your TV that plays the music during fireworks (like how the Bellagio in Vegas plays music during the fountain shows and you can hear it via TV in your hotel room).

Linda

Stay at the CR - the MK views are sooooooo worth it - and eat at the Poly!!! Best of both worlds.
