Contemp or AKL or WL???

Ok... I thought I had all my plans ironed out...

But now my DH just called to upgrade us...and we can get Contemporary for only $200 more for the week. No budget issues here.

We like animals...but we love the monorail! Would love the proximity of the Contemp...What should we do???

No question, stay at the Contemporary. So much more to do. We felt trapped at the AKL.

I hear the towers are the only place to stay at Contemporary. The proximatey to parks is great but accomodations are not as nice as AKL. I prefer AKL but then again, I have not yet stayed at a Monorail resort.

My preference is AKL.

It all basicly depends on your prefrences. If you like being close to it all, I would choose Contemperary. But on the other hand, if you like a genuinly awesome resort, I would choose AKL. In my opinon, I would choose Contemperary becasue of its proximity to all the "magic"!

ok just to mix it up...we also have the option of the Wilderness Lodge for only $130 more.....So now which one?

Contemporary-if you can swing the cost, with the monorail it cant be beat. Go for it!

I've stayed at all 3 resorts.....

First choice - AKL

After years and years of ONLY being willing to stay at monorail resorts, I branched out and tried AKL and LOVE IT. Yes - there is something great about the monorail, but I'm willing to give it up to stay at AKL. Such a unique resort. Yes - it is a little remote, but bus service is great. I think it took me just as long to get to Epcot from AKL as it did on the monorail from Poly (assuming no long wait for bus or monorail connections)


Tied for second - CR and WL

I think if my room in the CR was in the tower, I'd take it over WL, but otherwise, I think I'd go with WL. WL has a very nice ambiance, I love the lobby and decor and the boat to MK is convenient.

I have no complaints about CR - it just doesn't seem as unique as other resorts. The monorail access is the only reason I'd really consider staying there.

Although being on the monorail is nice--- I pick WL for the first part of your stay and move over to AKL for the last night (or two).

We always spend our last couple of nights at AKL. That way, you are close to AK (we save that park for last) and can slow down and enjoy the AKL pool at the end of your trip. It's our favorite way to wind down after a week at WDW.

I would pick AKL, here's why:

- AKL is only 4 years old so everything still looks NEW and clean. I've heard people say the rooms at both CR and WL need rehabs bad (which they are getting).

- Yes, CR is on the monorail so its really convenient to the MK (after 2 stops). But when you take the bus anywhere it will stop at the Polynesian and GF before leaving for the destination. WL also shares busses.

AKL doesn't share busses w/any other resort. The busses go directly to the parks. We stayed at both AKL and Poly last month and transportation felt a lot quicker at AKL.

- AKL also has the best foodcourt of the three. Mara is new, clean and has some great choices that are only availiable at this resort.

The Food and Fun center at CR is loud and dirty IMO. I've heard people say they like Mara better than Roaring Forks at WL.

- And the animals! Its AWESOME sitting on your balcony, looking over the quiet savannah.

You forgot to include the fact that it takes ATLEAST 30 mins to get to all the parks from AKL (besides AK).

We have stayed at all 3. It depends on your situation. If you will be spending most of your time in the parks, go with CR. We did AKL at a time we wanted some down time too (we had SP's and went a lot) and loved exploring the resort. Was like a new theme park to us! CR just makes us want to gogogo(high energy), whereas AKL is calm and relaxing! We really like all 3 places but as far as the resorts themselves I like AKL, CR then WL. We always have our own car too. Rooms are bigger at CR if that is an issue.

Why is WL more than AKL? Was it a view upgrade between the 2?

I guess I should have been more specific.
I have AKL....for $130 more I can have WL courtyard
or for $200 more I can have CR garden wing with patio.

I am leaning toward WL...i think... We are going to MK 2 days, MGM 2 days, AK 1 day and EP 1 day...so the proximity to MK would be preferred...and the DD's love boats...

how hard is it to get to MGM from WL or CR?
