I have not stayed at the Contemporary since I was a little girl and then it was the Tower. We're interested in the Garden rooms for our upcoming Jan. trip. We'll have 4 moms and 6 kids (11,8,7,5,2,2.)

Are there connecting rooms in the garden wing?

We'd love a room that walks out into the grass so the kids can have some free space. Are these difficult to come by?

Should we request a certain wing? North is closest to MK walkway, right?

Is there any place else to get coffee, drinks (think refillable mugs) besides in the lower lobby near the game room? That seems like a Long walk before coffee. (Maybe it isn't as far as I'm thinking.)

Is this still a fun place to stay?

I have just made reservations for the Contemporary for next April. I don't know about the connecting rooms, but I did request the North Garden wing. It is closer to the MK walkway. I also requested a first floor room with a view of Bay Lake, that way we can walk out the patio onto the grass near the room. There is no place to get food except in the main building, but you can get a coffee maker in the room and make coffee in the morning. My kids loved the place when we stayed there before and wanted to go back. it was so nice to be able to walk the boats go by our room. The walk can be a bit far, especially for your little ones, but you can request a room as close to the main building as possible. Have fun

We stayed in the North Wing in March. Our room was a connecting room (but we didn't request one) so there is at least one set of connecting rooms - probably more. We were in room 7115 which met all of our requests - North wing, first floor and close to the main building. I would say it wasn't more than a minute or two walk to the back door of the Food 'n Fun center. We had a nice patio which looked out onto the playground equipment and we could see Bay Lake also - watched the EWP several nights. The room was large and we loved the big bathroom.

Hope this helps!

We stayed in the north garden wing last August. We enjoyed it very much. I don't know that it makes much difference north wing or south wing. The north wing is closer to the MK walkway, but with children we found the walk too long in the heat and humidity, so took the monorail.

Also, we specifically requested a coffee maker for the room and were told "we don't provide coffee makers anymore". We also requested a refrigerator and it never worked. Had it replaced at one point and the new one was a loser too. Our room was a connecting room.

Beyond that, the decor is hideous, to say the least. But, we loved the size of the room, we loved the first floor and the sliding glass doors out to a pretty lawn, trees and a small pond (we had a standard view room). We could not sit out there in the evening at all. The noseeums nearly ate us alive.

We loved the big bathroom and the big table for quick in-room breakfasts. We loved the pools -- great slide at the big pool and beautiful quiet pool right on the lake. We loved that the parking lot is right near the north garden wing entrance.

Best of all, we loved the monorail convenience. We'd stay there again in a minute!

Thanks for the help. SO what I need to request is: North Wing, first floor, view of lake, close to Main Building, connecting. Hmmm, that sounds like a few too many "requests."

As for the decor being hideous: that may well be true. However since my mom, sister and I stayed there when we were little,(and now are taking our children), if the decor is the same, it will be nostalgic and we'll love it.

It may or may not be too many requests. However, make sure you order your requests by what is most important to you. That is how they try to grant as much as they can - going from the 1st request on downward.

Last June, we were in the FAR end of the South wing (I had requested North). It was a LONG walk to the Food & Fun Center for mug refills. We started taking turns; two people to fill five mugs.

On the flip side though, we had a beautiful garden view with lots of grassy area. You would have to watch your kids closely though. The lake is not far off.

If we had a garden room close to the main building, we'd have grassy area that was a good distance from the lake though, right? Isn't it a triangualr area? The ones closer to the Tower have more space before the water?

('By "good distance", I mean enough space for the kids to play in the grass without danger of falling in the water while we sit on the patio and watch. They would NOT be out there unless we were on the patio at least.)

I think the S Garden wings are under rehab or will be shortly. You may have no choice but the N. wings. We stayed at the N. wings twice; 2nd floor, in connecting rooms. The siize was awesome; quick walk to MK; kind of a hike to main building (we were in room 7232 the 1st trip).

We stayed in the North Wing in March in a lower level room. LOVED IT. Our room did have a connecting room. We had plenty of grassy area outside of the patio, and the beach was wide enough we didn't have to worry abou the kids falling in the water when they played in the sand.

There is a separate entrance to the Food N Fun Center that's just a few steps from the North Wing Building. I think you can get mugs refilled at the pool as well. We had a coffee maker in our room with decent coffee--much better than the coffee they serve at most restaurants in WDW. CR also has a nice coffee bar, The Contemporary Grounds, the serves good coffee.

We did have to wait until later in the afternoon to be able to get a room on the lower level in the North Wing, but it isn't a problem if you plan accordingly so you can swim or go to the MK while you are waiting for the room. We loved the North Wing and being able to walk to MK in 10 minutes. The room was plenty big and the playground was fun.

I'm sure you're correct-I really don't know. Have you seen a CR map? Here's one I have:

I requested all those things. My grandmother is going and shes old. I requested connecting rooms, north wing and ground floor and closest to the main building as possible. So go ahead and request it. There are maps of all the properties on the DIS home page look under resort maps and you can see a blueprint view of CR. My family of 6 is going June2-6 for our first trip to WDW. :) 32 more days!
