Apologies if this is a silly thing to ask, but I'm a new lens wearer, still in my trial period, and wondered if contact lenses are ok on rollercoasters?

Told you it was a stupid question, but I just want to make sure they won't pop out of my eyes with the pressure of high speed or anything :rotfl:

It's not a stupid question. I wore mine and had no problems.

The only thing you need to be mindful of while wearing your lenses on rides is that they may dry out a little. It wouldn't hurt to carry a small bottle of rewetting drops (available where eyedrops are sold, and specifically for contact lenses) with you just in case the dryness bothers you.

I always wear my lenses when I go to amusement parks because I'm always afraid my glasses will fall off. Just carry a little bottle of eye drops jst in case they get dried out from the wind blowing on the coaster.

Yes, the faster the coaster (a hypercoaster like Millennium Force in Cedar Point is an example), the more they can dry your eyes out. If it's a more twisty-turny looping type coaster, it's fine. I used to remove my glasses when I rode coasters--imagine how much more fun Space Mountain got with contacts! :)

Oh I love my contacts in amusement parks, especially Disney! I used to have to take my glasses off for rides like Splash so all the animatronics were kind of blurry. And trying to fit the 3D glasses over my normal pair was tricky, and the 3D effect never seemed to work right. It works much better with my contacts and just the 3D glasses. Plus, I can wear normal sunglasses and not look like a total dork with clip-ons (or have the hassle of switching between my glasses inside and prescription sunglasses outside).

I've never had a problem. Not a silly question though - a good question, actually, for newbie wearers. :)

Don't worry. I've been wearing contacts for 25 years, been on hundreds of roller coaster rides, and never had a problem beyond the slight dryness others mentioned.

The only times I've had a contact pop out have been from rubbing my eye, or opening them underwater.

I'll even recommend a brand: Blink drops are really great, and don't leave any residue on the lenses.

Presumably I can get these drops from my opticians then, they haven't mentioned them to me so far, but I'll ask when I go back in.

Thanks for the advice everyone, I can't wait to see the world properly again when I'm upside down! :goodvibes

man you're gonna hate me!

Actually this is kind of a funny story. I HATE rollercoasters. With an undying passion. I was at Six Flags with my cousins and friends and we were expecting to go on the runaway train. Well somehow we ended up on this old wooden roller coaster! We turned the corner and I saw the hill and proceeded to scream bloody murder the entire time. In addition to screaming bloody murder and clawing my cousins arm until I drew blood, one of my contacts slipped out. So im screaming, clawing the poor kids hand, and holding my eye with my other hand trying not to completely lose my contact. I put it back in when we got off the ride, and haven't been on a roller coaster since!

I also lost a contact on the swings at a carnival, cause a huge beetle flew into my eye. The contact went into the side of my head.

So...just be careful! I seem to attract bad luck at rides and carnivals.

Drops are OTC. You can get them at a drugstore or mass-retailer like Target or Walmart.

My DH did lose a contact on the Crush'N Gusher at Typhoon Lagoon. He wasn't expecting the force of the water and out it popped.
