contact lenses question

Is it possible for a lense to go so far up your eyeball that you cant even see it?

My DD says she doesnt know if it popped out or if it went way up. I cant see anything in there but we cant find the lense on the floor either.

Called the eye people but they arent in.

Any suggestions?

It is possible. My friend had that happen when we were at girl scout camp and she had to be driven to the hospital to have it removed.


But, it could be you just can't find it. I've lost a lot of contacts on the floor but couldn't find them. I found them later all dried up and at the other end of the room, or something!!


Hope you find it, or get this resolved!

Yes, it's possible. I wear soft disposable lenses. I've "lost" them a couple of times rubbing my eyes or while crying at the movies. I know they're up there cause I can feel them. The only way to get them out is to lift up my eyelid and dig around. But if she doesn't feel them, I suspect they popped out.

This has happened to me twice. (I've worn contacts for 24 years, so it's not a common thing, thank goodness!) Once it felt like something was in my eye (well, DUH - it was my contact! ) and the other time I didn't feel anything. The contact finally came out the corner of my eye all rolled up. It's happened to my DH a couple of times too. So yep, it's possible.

It's happened to me too. I just closed my eyes and kept gently stroking downward on my closed eyelid starting way up by the bone. After several strokes (about 8), the lens worked its way down to where I could at least see it when my eye was open.

Absolutely can "hide" up in the eyelid. Just let it settle up there for a moment and then gently start working it (with your index finger) over to the outside corner of your eye. You'll feel it when it's there and then gently slide it back onto the eyeball with your index finger and thumb together.

If it popped out you should feel it coming off the eye.

Have been wearing contacts for over 40 years and have had this happen many times.

If she doesn't feel as if something is in her eye, than most likely it's fallen out. You'll find it dried up, that when their easier to find.

It happens to me frequently, but I wear rigid gas permeable lenses. When they do get stuck so far up, it's VERY uncomfortable, and I know it's up there. Can't say if it's the same for soft lenses.

The best way to get them to come back down is to keep looking down without blinking (easier said than done). Eventually that works.

Turn out all the lights in the room and search with a flashlight. The lens will sparkle when the flashlight hits it.

Also, if her eyes feel irritated, they could be very dry. Have her moisten her eyes well with saline solution- this should help soothe her eyes, and also help the lenses move back into position if they are still in.

If she feels no discomfort, no sensation of "something in my eye", it's probably popped out.

The trick about looking down is a good one to help get a stuck lens back into position so you can remove it.

(Are they soft or gas permeable lenses? I had trouble with the lenses getting stuck when I wore the gas permeables, but it rarely happens since I've switched to soft.)

I have rigid gas permeable lenses, and from time to time when my contacts get dry, they'll go up into my lid and OUCH! I can ALWAYS feel it, so I would imagine that if yours got stuck up there, you'd feel it. If you are unsure, I'd go to the eye doc and let them have a look.

I've used both soft and rigids, and I've had the soft ones bunch up inside the eyelid. Not only can you not see it, it's very difficult to get it out, cause it bunches up way up there. Try moistening the eye with rewetting drops, then look way down as possible, maybe it'll move the lens
