Contact Lens Users Help Please!

Ok, this may sound a bit silly. I recently began wearing contact lenses and love it. However, what do you do when you go to the pool or water parks? Can you wear them or can something happen to them because of the chlorine? If I wear my glasses, I'd still have to secure them if I'm at a water park/ride and then I won't be able to see a thing! What do you do?

I still wear mine. Just be careful. You don't want any of that chlorine getting in your eyes. Of course, don't open your eyes underwear. So if you actually do go swimming, just beware of splashers and yeah. Basically beware of your surroundings and you'll be fine. You just don't want that pool water getting in your eyes and what not.

I too where mine, but be careful if your not real used to them. Sometimes when you open your eye back up they may "stick" or at least mine do. I have toric lenses. I have also found it to be a good idea to make sure to wear sunglasses on faster rides, contacts don't like alot of air.

I've wore contacts for 25+ years and never had any problems in a pool. If I'm swimming laps I wear goggles.

I never swam with my lenses in always kept an old pair of glasses. Confirmed glasses wearer now. How do you keep them on during slides down those big water shutes?

I agree with Amburger~as long as you don't open your eyes underwater you'll be fine. I've been wearing contacts to water parks for years, I just make sure not to go on rides where I'll end up underwater at the bottom!!

I switched to disposable lenses for EXACTLY this reason... I was always so nervous to lose one. Now, I always have a spare set of lenses along and can pop one in if needed. You can probably even get a sample set of lenses or two from your eye dr for the trip...you will probably love them so much you will switch permanently...I did. No cleaning...jsut thrwo them away every couple of weeks...wonderful!!! ( i have had contacts for 20 years!!)

I also wear my lenses in the pool. Close your eyes under water or wear swimming goggles. I bought a pair last year when my girls were on swim team and I can swm so much better with them, I'm not afraid of losing my lenses or getting chlorine in my eyes.

I wear mine in the pool now too. I never learned how to swim as a child, because I couldn't see for anything in the pool and it was scary. My DH actually taught me how to swim at 26 years old last summer! Wearing the contacts made a huge difference. I look stupid, but I put goggles over them and haven't had any problem, even going under water. That said, I wear disposables and when we go on a vacation, I specifically set a pair aside just for swimming and then put a different pair back in when done. A little chlorine still got on them and really irritated my eyes, the first day when I left the swimming ones in all day.

I got my contacts years ago for water sports and have never had a problem. I've been waterskiing, tubing, snorkeling (with a mask of course), and any and all waterslide that I've wanted to try - including the biggies at WDW. No goggles or mask aside from snorkeling or lap swimming. The only contact problem I've ever had at a water park was when I was fairly new to them and put sunscreen on too close to my eye and got some in there - ouch! I was a smeary, teary, blurry mess until I got it rinsed out completely. BTW, I wear soft contacts, disposables (currently I use the night and day ones and love them). I do carry an extra pair when I travel but haven't needed them.

Thanks again for the replies. I feel more confident now wearing them to WDW and will take an extra set or two with me (and my galsses which is my backup).

As someone else posted...use the daily wear and you'll be hooked.

When we went on our first DCL trip in 2004, I really wanted to snorkel since I hadn't done so in 12 years, but my eyesight had gotten so worse that I can't see without contacts/glasses. I looked into getting a mask made with my prescription and it was gonna cost a small fortune for one time use...not many places to snorkel in southern Illinois...lol So I talked to my eye doctor about this and he told me to use the daily wear and just pitch the lenses after snorkeling. So, I tried them for the entire cruise...had no problems at all and now I only use the daily wear. I have used them in the pool as well, but when I'm there it's usually for lap swimming so I've got my goggles on also. As a severe allergy sufferer I like that if my allergies act up...eye gunk...I just toss the lenses and get fresh ones the next day. Granted, they are pricey compared to the extended wear, but comfort is more important. I'd say talk to your eye doctor and see what is best for you.
