Construction Update

I completely relate to you. I'm 3 weeks away and this is freaking me out. I emailed my planner and she said construction will be occurring Monday through Friday until 4:30. My wedding is on a Monday at 5:00 so hopefully I won't be hearing the beeping. But still she said you might be able to see the walls from the bridge, which means we might have our staged exit in another area. Ugh. Like I don't have enough stress. :headache:

 Hope it all works out ok for you. This whole thing just sucks completely :sad2:

Ok, up until now I have been fairly chilled about this whole wedding planning but I have to admit this situation has me FREAKING out! :sad2: We are about 8 weeks away from our wedding and I am just so worried. I keep thinking about pneumatic drills and beeping reversing trucks whilst we're saying our vows, dust and debris blowing in the air, not being able to get photos where we had hoped!..... I'm just so sad about it all :sad1:

Thanks I know it really does. When I get back I'll post some pics that way you'll have an idea what's going on.

Thanks for keeping this thread updated, all. I have no reply to the two emails I've sent my planner asking what my options are this past week. I'm just glad you all are posting pictures so we're in the loop. None of this bothered me until these latest walls went up...the pavilion, the view, all of it behind a wall. Ick.

Our ceremony is at 10am on a Monday Morning. What is even worse is we orginally had SBP booked and swapped to WP because we thought it was so lovely.

It frustrates me so much that this is happening. I'm sure the day will be wonderful etc but its just another thing to stress about, plus those walls just look so awful!! You can photoshop them out or take pics in clever places but that doesnt stop you or your guests seeing them on the day!

Completely agree. I'm really concerned about construction noise. My planner told me that they are putting plants and shrubs to cover the walls but that's not going to block out the noise of diggers etc :sad2:

Hey guys...I'm "sight unseen" so far with the Floridian and where exactly the Wedding Pavilion is. We have our planning session next month, but can someone give me a sense of where this construction site is? Is it visible if you're facing the Pavilion? Visible only if you're standing at the Pavilion looking outward towards and entrance? How how many football fields away are we talking?

Just curious - everyone seems to be addressing this like it's right next door, but I don't know for sure and have zero sense of the space and layout.

Any guidance would be really helpful. :goodvibes

From what I've heard, the construction site is very close to the wedding pavilion. A friend tried booking a reservation at the GF spa and they were informed that it was closing indefinitely this month. The spa is within eyesight of the pavilion, but I am unaware what types of barriers and greenery they will use to cover up the construction area. Best of luck to you Wedding Pavilion brides! :thumbsup2

Was there from 9/3-9/7 and stopped by the WP. There was a wedding taking place at 10 and I believe 12 and I didn't see a single construction vehicle?!?! Nor did I hear any noise. I took a photo of the "wall" but I don't think it looked horrible, nothing you could not just tell the photographer to avoid getting in photos.

Thanks for reposting the link, iluv :goodvibes

I'm wondering if I should be considering backup locations. What have they been suggesting? I emailed my planner 4 days ago and haven't gotten a response, so figured I'd ask here instead. My heart isn't set on the WP to the extent I'd exclude other options.

The annoying thing is that I picked the GF as my deluxe hotel, and the reception is there, because I was trying to keep it all simple. Now I'm wondering if most of the views are going to suck b/c of the construction, let alone how it affects the WP experience. :sad2:

You can look into the Marina at Grand Floridian. I think this is what we are going to do. It's not the Pavilion but it still has the views of the castle. There are some negatives to this site so I'm not sure which one is better. There is a fast food restaurant behind the spot so may have to deal with kids yelling. I'm really disappointed with the construction especially since they can't gaurantee the construction will stop for our ceremony. I'm about 90% sure we are doing Marina. I have expressed our unhappiness and sadness with our planner about the situation. We will see. I just wish they had courtesy to tell everyone ahead of time and offer some kind of discount on the pavilion to everyone. I know money doesn't make it better but it is really expensive and we are not getting what we are paying for. I just feel it is horrible that we had to find out about this through sites such as this. I'm curious to hear from some of the brides who have been married during this time. It doesn't sound like any major construction is going on yet so maybe over the next month we will see how bad or good it really is!

Ash8716 - agree with your comment completely. As I finished reading your post, I looked at your countdown and saw the Pavilion and realized that shot won't exist so much anymore.

I remember also seeing a beautiful shot by Misty Miotto that was black and white with the bride's cathedral veil lifted in the wind on a grassy hill and the Grand Floridian in the background. Once I saw that, that was all I wanted - to recreate that shot. That dream is now shattered :sad2:

I will be visiting in early October and will try to update.

I know it's awful I have pictures of the pavilion when we went down last December. I happened to come across them and it almost brought tears to my eyes realzing that all those photos the reason for choosing the Pavilion no longer exists. I have seen some of the shots from the Polyneisian Side and I'm sorry I just don't feel like it compares! I know ecactly what photo you are talking about, it is amazing. I had this vision of this amazing photos there and now there is no way to get it. It's such a crappy position to be put in on your wedding day. I just hope we make the right choice with our decision on ceremony location:sad2:

I just read somewhere that construction has been stopped until January. Can anyone confirm this? Thanks!

We were just there last Friday. I took a look at the construction and took a few photos.

At that point, I saw people working within the walls.

Michelle also told me that the construction is running two months behind. She explained to me that the outside shell would be done, if I remember correctly, in Sept. 2012 instead of mid-summer.

I was there last Friday. They were definitely working. I have spoken to someone who talked to Norm Noble about the construction. Norm Noble is as high as it gets with DFTW. They say they're starting to work on the actually building (meaning the structure) in December. In Jan they are supposed to be working on expanding upwards.

Now I will say that there wasn't any noise, and it seemed to be non-impeeding on the wedding that took place that day (they had finished about 30 minutes before I got there) but I'm really not sure.

Monday I have a meeting with my new planner. I will take pictures and note on the noise(or perhaps lack of) when I get home.

Guess that means it definitely won't be done in time for our wedding now. :sad2:

We were just married at the Wedding Pavilion yesterday. I too was very concerned about the walls and the construction. We had absolutely no noise what so ever. I was really irked about the walls the whole week we were there before the wedding, but I have to admit that I didn't even think about them or really even notice them the day of. I think I was too excited about the wedding day itself. Randy was able to take some really awesome pictures and I am totally excited to see them!! I'll post them as soon as I get them so other brides can get an idea of the shots that were taken and what not. :)
