Knowing Disney, I'm quite sure if you go during construction there wont be much that will inconvenience you. The fact that they sent things out to people who are staying toward the end of this year says to me they expect that to be the time that would most likely have some impact on guests. I think their timing says it all. We are booked for February 13-21, and we have heard nothing yet. Even if we do get the mailing, I'm not going to worry about it effecting my trip.

I do think there is a chance in October or November that there might be less services, but I'm sure they will make up for what is missing.

My policy is to not visit a resort until they get the bugs worked out.

At Aulani the first to stay there were charged higher prices. Disney has now realized that they over estimated the value of the resort and they have started to adjust prices. They have also realized that they need to modify the resort even though it isn't completed yet.

If Disney is giving credits/refunds for staying there during construction, you can bet that it will be disruptive. The mouse doesn't give back cheese unless he really feels that it is necessary.

That's not true. We have gotten compensation at several DVC resorts without asking when things were either "not working" or being worked on.

Did they offer you the compensation before you checked in?

Granted giving back points doesn't cost Disney anything and it's a nice gesture but IMO they wouldn't be going through the hassle for everyone staying there unless they really felt that they needed to.

Hopefully I am wrong and everyone has a wonderful time.

DW and I are going to Aulani for our 30th anniversary from 9/03-9/09/12. DD is going for her honeymoon from 12/14-12/20/12. We both have received notifications of the upcoming expansion construction. I called Member Services and it is set to begin the day after we leave on 9/10/12. However, for DD's trip, we received a letter stating the following...

We're excited that you'll soon be visiting us! Over the course of our first year, Guests have told us again and again how much they've enjoyed their time at Aulani. So, in order to give our Guests more of what they love, we'll be expanding our Resort as part of our final buildout beginning in September.

This expansion will include enhancements to the Waikolohe Pool area, as well as the addition of two new water features, two new Quick-service dining options and a new, larger venue for our popular Starlit Hui show.

These projects are being carefully scheduled to minimize impact to your stay; however, you will see and hear work in progress - so we hope you'll pardon our appearance and any construction-related noise. We assure you that nearly all of our most popular features will be available during your stay, including:

- Waikolohe Valley pools/water fun are
- Beach access and activities
- Aunty's Beach House kids' club
- Starlit Hui show (except for a short hiatus in the fall)
- Other entertainment, including fireside storytelling, outdoor movie nights and visits from Disney Characters
- Laniwai Spa and Fitness Center
- All restaurants

Please note that the Wailana Bar and Quiet Pool will remain closed for an indefinite period of time. Also, the Makai Preserve will close permanently in early October to make way for new water features.

I was told that for DD's trip, we would receive a point credit equal to two nights stay that would be credited to our account upon check-in. The points, if banked or are current UY would be placed in the current UY account. If the points were borrowed, they would return to their original UY.

It will be interesting to see the differences made between the two trips.
