We are due to stay at AKV (savannah view) in a couple of weeks time...

does anyone know how bad the construction view is? Is it affecting only some of the savannah view rooms or all - and is it likely to be close or quite far away? its difficult to tell from the drawings...

I'm not familiar with all the savannahs. However, just returned from WDW. My parents had an Arusha savannah - Zebra trail view and the construction did not affect them at all. You could see the top of the construction cranes way off in the distance on the other side of the building. So request the same and you will not be affected if your request comes through.

Have a wonderful time.

Hey SammieG...when will you be there. We are due to check into AKV on Sunday the 6th through the 11th.

I am sooooooo excited! I already have my AKV stuff staged and organized!

Boma...here I come! :cloud9:

The construction will be noticeable if your room is facing the sunset savannah. I have seen quite a few posts on here from people who stayed in those rooms and most have stated that the noise from construction isn't that great, and since it is beyond the savannah, you will see parts of buildings appearing above and through the trees. I have also read some recent posts that the animals have gotten used to the noise and are still quite available for view, depending on the time of day of course. The big disruption will occur when they expand the sunset savannah towards Kidani and add the new savannah, probably early next year.

We arrive March 31 for 6 nights but have 7 nights at OKW before and 3 nights at BCV after :)

This time next week we will be there :)

Thanks for the great pics Marvali.. that really helps :)

Sunset savanna view rooms will also have views of the construction, but you wont hear a lot of noise. If it doesn't bother the animals (which it doesn't) it isn't likely to bother you either. There are quite a few animals on Sunset savanna too, and that is where the three male giraffes are! Say "hi" to the dominant male, Jay, if you see him!

SammiG - we check in the same day as you for 5 nights! Staying 4 nights prior at VB...Can't wait!

Can't take credit for the pictures, but happy to provide the link. When we are at WDW this coming July I might try to take a run over to AKL and see about getting some updated pics myself (couldn't get AKV the week of our vacation so had to "settle" for OKW instead). Would appreciate any new pics from you guys who are going soon.

I stayed there in the beginning of March and felt that the construction ruined our savannah view. I requested a room that didn't face the construction and our view was looking directly at it (that was with a 10am check in and room that wasn't ready until 4). I could have dealt with cranes in the distance but what I saw were several partially constructed buildings with concrete walls smack in my face. I was so annoyed I couldn't enjoy the savannah and finally managed to get my room changed. The manager told me that 50% of the savannah rooms faced construction. I will not book another savannah view room until all construction is complete because it's a gamble what you'll get.

I have to somewhat agree with IMB.
We were there last week, room 5304, Sunset Savanna view, just past the second elevator.
Our balcony looked directly on construction. It looked like any rooms farther down would also have the same view.
Our first night, we were in a VV room, and managed to get a SV, on the sunset savanna off Ostrich Trail--the view here was great, no construction, and if they had offered to leave me in this room, in retrospect, I would have stayed.(with a point adjustment of course)
OT, the VV room also had a closet, SV did not, and a microwave, SV room did not.:confused3
At first, I was quite upset about the view:mad: , but found the animals did not seem upset by the noise, and we did see an abundance of them.
However, the noise did bother us.
In the room, with the patio door shut, you couldn't hear much, but on the balcony, it was quite loud, to the point you could not really sit out and have a relaxing cup of coffee in peace. You could even hear the workers yelling back and forth at times.
I tried not to make a big deal out of it, as over all I loved the resort, as did my kids(hubby prefers BWV), and had/ am still having a difficult time overcoming my addonitis.
I will try to post some pictures of our view soon, when I download them.

Here is a link that shows some pictures of the construction. Although some of them are closeups to attempt to show the layouts of the buildings, the first and last one should give you a little feel for the type view you might get from your room.

Yes, our view was much worse than the photos on this link.
You can see a chain link fence, and construction in the close distance in pretty much every photo we took of animals off our balcony.
I really will try to post them soon.

We just got home from our two bedroom Sunset savanna view yesterday. Yes, it was VERY easy to see the construction. There aren't many trees to hide the view, we had a clear view of kidani. And yes, the animals are still available to see. As for noise, we heard none. We weren't really around during the day though. With early morning entry to the parks we were out of the room by 6 am or 7 am at the latest each day.

Oh my word!!! I'm not even up that early, forgot being out of my room!!! Of course with our DS8 we have to get up a little earlier than I would like. Once he is up we hit the showers and head to breakfast and the parks.

My family (mom, sister and three nieces) weren't thrilled, either. But they really appreciated how much we got to do in that hour at each park before the official park opening. The week before and after Easter the parks open very early, generally at 8 am. That means the early opening is at 7 am. Leaving the room at 6 am got us there, through bag check and in line at 6:45 am. For Animal Kingdom, we left at 6:30 since we were staying so close. the gates were just open when we walked up.

I don't normally travel during the really crowded parts of the year so I was definitely going to take advantage of the early hour. And I LOVE the pre-dawn family picture we have of us on main street in MK with the castle still lit in various shades of light. :)
