Constantly Criticized for Going to Disney!

I know alot of you Dis'ers like me have been to Disney several times. The wife and kids and myself can't get enough. Everytime the trip is over we only wish we could stay longer. Every year when debating possible vacation spots, the kids just want to return to Disney and thats my sediments as well. But when asked by peers or family where we are going we get nothing but criticism. "Aren't you getting sick of Mickey" they all ask. "Youre going there Again!". Why don't other people get it? They don't really know that Disney is really a bargain as far as price goes. You can get a 7 day vacation for 4 at a value resort for around 1800 plus air fare. if you step it up to a moderate resort it runs about 22-2400 thats a bargain. And if you take advantage of the free dining offer, it makes it that much better. We've done that for 2 years now. I love vacationing in Disney Because we've been there so many times. We know exactly what we are doing we dont need to rush around and see everything. We can relax a bit more around the pools and water parks. We have built in traditions that we celebrate every time. All in All I dont think we will ever get sick of it.
Has anybody else received criticism?
Why dont alot of peaple get it?

By the way I'm fairly new to these Dis'boards and I'm addicted. As you can tell by this post. I will post anything. I hope this is in the right place!

It's your choice where you spend your vacation. We split our big vacations between Hawaii and WDW. My DD is 11 and she's been to WDW 3 times in her life. And yes people still say "again?" No-one questions why we spend most of our vacation time in Hawaii, though!:)

I think it's nice to see new things, too, but you shouldn't let other people dictate to you where your family chooses to go. We've offered to take our DD overseas a number of times and she thinks she's not ready -- she'd rather go to Disneyworld!

By the way, no-one asks ski-fanatics why they are going up to the mountains... again! Just live your life and dont let other people get you down!

We get the same thing having gone about 6 times now since 2000 and driving from Virginia every time! You know what's funny, everytime I think its time to try Universal and skip Disney now that my kids are older(13 and turning 10), they want to go back to Disney. So my kids still love Disney and thankfully my husband and I do.
I have a friend who went on her first trip to Orlando last year, and thought Disney was too "kiddy" for her kids(same age as mine), so they did the whole Universal thing. They loved it. We were in Orlando at the same time, so we visited them at Universal city Walk. I walked in with my Disney shirt and the guy at the entrance to CityWalk said "We don't allow no rats in here" with a sarcastic laugh! That was all I needed to hear to know we made the right choice:rotfl:

I think a lot of us get the "You're going there again???" line from friends and relatives. Someone on the DIS once said about people understanding our addiction..., "If they get it, you don't have to explain it - If they don't, you'll never be able to make them". I usually just say "You bet we are..." and leave it at that. They just don't know what their missing!!! :thumbsup2

I totally understand your feelings. I get this attitude from friends, family members, and aquaintances all the time. Why do they care where we choose to spend our vacation. We love Disney! Sure we go other places too but Disney is way more fun. It's fun to go back every year for our family. We get the "your going again" alot.

I live in South Jersey. Every year people from South Jersey & Philly will flock to the Jersey shore, like salmon returning upstream to spawn and never think twice about it. A week at the Jersey shore is just as expensive as WDW and nowhere near as nice (this summer the water took almost to August to get warm enough to go in) but they look at me funny when I say I'm going back to WDW

I get the "you're going to Disney again" a lot. Especially since DH retired and we are up to three times a year! I don't try to convince people. I just say we enjoy it as a family and leave it at that. I do have to agree that no one ever questions those who go other places over and over. We live in tourist country and people spend a fortune to come here skiing in the winter. No one ever questions them!

I get that from all my friends and relatives too. But, now that my kids are older, we split between DW and VEGAS Baby!!!!! Now that is cool:cool1:

Well, sometimes we start to plan to go somewhere else...
Even someplace closer to home...:drive:
But we start making plans and adding it all up...
Gas... Food... Various Entertainment Costs...
Hotels that cost twice as much as a Value Resort...
:love2:
Dh and I look at each other and say...
For that $$ we can go to Disney...

So we do... And they all say... Your going to Disney Again???

Yep, that's what happens w/ our families. It's just so routine! I honestly think that the shore is MORE expensive, and like you saidm nowhere as nice. I don't get it! As long as there is a WDW, we'll be going back. (Unless plane fares go down enough go visit BIL in Germany! :rotfl: )

Life is a banquet and some poor fools are starving to death... Meanwhile... We're all making ADR's!!!!!:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:
Hey...... It's not their fault that they can't feel the magic!!!!!princess:

Going to DisneyWorld for the 4th time in 2 years. We haven't told many yet because we would get "again??".

Leaving in Oct. and might not tell them until we are on the road.

I feel the same way as you. Friends don't say it but I do think they think we're crazy when we say we are going to WDW again. It's not that we go every year but it is the easiest vacation IMO. Once we get there (we drive) we park our car. We don't get lost!!!!! We don't have to pay for food as we are on the dining plan. We know what is at every park and know how to get things accomplished i.e. being at rope drop, using fastpasses, etc. The parks are clean as is the resort. There is never a frown on anyones face as we are all HAPPY because we are at WDW. It's just so easy to vacation at WDW. I do have to admit though that we are a family that enjoy rides, shows, etc. We just went on a mini trip to Cedar Point and my 20 year old son brought his girlfriend. She doesn't like rides and no one informed Mom of this before hand!!!!! Who doesn't like rides. Oh well. Lesson learned he is on his own for vacations. haha Can't wait to celebrate our 25th anniversary with my DH next year at WDW!!!!!!! No kids!!!!!!!!!

Exactly right. One week rent at the Jersey Shore, renting a small house, runs at least $1,000 for someplace decent. A hotel room runs around $120 a night. Restaurants, boardwalk eating and rides and other entertainment, runs easily $2,500 for a week for a family of four. We say the same thing - for that money, we could go to Disney!

You either "get it" or you don't. We get it :disrocks:

I always answer "Every trip is different, there's so much to do there we could go for a month and not do everything. Don't think we do the same exact thing every time. Have you ever been there? I didn't think so."

We get that too. You know what kills me?.....These same people complain about how "expensive" Disney is and they will go rent condos on the beach or a cabin in the mountain. Look I love planning vacations and I have to say that a condo on the beach (like Destin) or a cabin in the mountain is expensive and then you have to add food and entertainment. That adds up to a LOT of $$$$$! :scared1: Also let's face some of these places like Destin are shopping destinations and you can do some serious damage there. You can easily spend $500 just for a little weekend trip to these places when I can spend a WEEK in disney for abut $400 more and know exactly what we are doing each day and exactly where we are eating....As far as I am concerned there is nothing that compares to the value you get at Disney! :woohoo: Think about it, we are staying at a "value" resort in December and are guaranted first of all CLEAN rooms and great theming. If you compare other non Disney "value" hotels you are not guaranted the cleanliness or the cool theming.....I'll take DISNEY anyday!

I totally understand, and I've only been to WDW three times (so far!). Now I just tell people we are going to Orlando and don't elaborate or offer an details when we get back. I'm not going to let other people spoil my vacation, no matter where I spend it!

DH and I are going to spend our anniversary in Oct. We decided to go there after our trip in April. This will be our 3rd trip and our 1st w/o the kids. When people ask me where we are going I know what I'm going to hear so I just say we are going to FL. If they know me, they know I mean Disney:laughing:
I'm glad that not everybody "gets it". It would be WAY to crowded then!

Yeah, we get that too. I wasn't even planning to tell my husband' parents that we were going on vacation (we don't live close by or talk to them often) because I knew I'd get, "again?" from them. I wound up having to tell them because they asked if they could come for a visit and I had to ask when, because we'd be on vacation for a week! Last winter when I told my mother-in-law we were going to Disney for our anniversary without the kids, and she told my father-in-law, he said, "humph. I don't know why anyone would want to go there. Been there, done that." I said, "well, we LIKE to have fun. We LIKE to go on roller coasters and see shows and ride rides!" Considering he took my husband and his brothers probably in 1978 and hasn't been back since, I think it's a little different now!!!

In my family, everyone knows I'm a Disney fanatic -- it's no surprise we're going to see Mickey. My sister keeps plotting ways to get out of her Labor Day weekend trip with *her* mother-in-law, so she and her family can come to Disney with us!!

We are going to WDW in Sept. for the first time and most likely the only time. As a family we have one vacation rule, "we do no go to the same place twice". I like PB&J but I do not want to eat it everyday or every other day. :scared: WDW will be a great adventure and another sticker on our vacation trunks. Too many great destinations around the world to just spend most of your time at just one.

I know what you mean its very aggravating. I havent been to Disney in years since i was a little kid but going for the first time next year with my family. We too may not be going back due to the time & expense but if we do it may not be for years from now.
I love going to the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee and there is plenty to do & see in that area (much more then people know and if they went im sure they would be surprised). My husband will get the comment "whats in Tennessee from people?""" There are lots of memories for me there since i was a little kid and over the past 3 years we have been there twice with my kids and we all love it and i will continue to go at least every other year if possible. I feel like saying to them (no offense to Disney) but there is more to vacations then the beach & Disney World as this seems to be the only places people have any knowledge of. Its nice to switch it up from time to time but as long as you are happy then continue to go or try something different every other year.
