So, maybe it's just me, but there seems to be a LOT of negative reviews lately for restaurants on property that, in the past, got nothing but rave ones.

So, my theory... Is Disney cutting back on quality to save a few bucks, especially since a good portion of the dining is now part of the "free dining" promos?

Come on all you conspiracy nuts... what are your thoughts?

I have not noticed a slide in quality or service. The problem I think stems from people setting their sights so high because it's "DISNEY", that they forget a server or a chef can make a less than perfect dish or a less than stellar effort. We do alot of the same restaurants each time and not seen a slide.

We've noticed that some of the more expensive menu items, like prime rib, have been removed. The only restaurant I noticed that still serves prime rib is Boatwrights at POR. Service can be hit and miss anywhere. Some restaurants we loved 2 years ago fell short this year but some that were new to us were outstanding.

The only negative experience I had in service/food last week in WDW was in a restaurant not owned by Disney. Everything else was fantastic, even Coral Reef which gets a lot of flack.

Unfortunately, many people on the DDP, whether they pay for it directly or paying a higher rate for their room and getting "free" dining, look to the highest price items on the menu. This is based either on the attitude of "I paid for it and can get whatever I want" or "as long as it's free, let's get the best items".

For example, at Le Cellier there is a $22.50 difference in price between the lowest price adult lunch entree and the highest price dinner entree. Each restaturant receives a fixed dollar amount credit for each meal sold under DDP. Each restaurant has to make a profit.

As food costs go up it takes more money to operate a restaurant.

So as things progress more and more of the higher end cost items will vanish.

The signature restaurants do not have so much of a problem as they get paid double the regular restaurants.

If they ever do away with the Basic DDP within about six months you will find a lot more high end selections at all the restaurants.
