Consolidate Trip Report Posts?!!?!?

Would it be possible when posting reports to keep the reports in as few threads as possible. If there is a character limit for the first message post a reply to the thread to add the rest.

It is EXTREMELY hard to read reports when each day is posted on a separate thread. The threads are separated when they are replied to, then "DAY THREE" is buried on page 3!!!!!!

If the moderator could post this request somewhere too.....

When I'm trying to read all the posts from a particular person, I click on the "thread starter" column to sort the threads by starter. Then I scroll down to the name of the poster starting the thread.

When sorted this way all the threads from the same person are together which makes them really easy to read.

Hope this helps.

CM mom,

Thanks so much for the tip! This makes reading these trip reports soooo much easier. I learn so much every day from these boards!! You are all so helpful. God Bless You!!!

Lynda

Also, the courteous thing for the OP to do (which I haven't seen much lately) is providing links to the "next episode" at the bottom of each. This is easily done once you have completed your entire series.

Most boards post their reports in order on the same thread. It's easier to read, easier to navigate, and easier to search for specific threads.

When I am reading I don't want to stop in the middle of the story to find the next thread.....

I've asked this question before. It's obviously up to the poster and the board what the "norm" is. The board here has replied in the past that they feel that people will be more likely to read an individual day's report than an entire thread, so they prefer reports in separate days on separate threads. However, if the poster puts them as a reply to the original thread, they won't separate them.

I've done my reports both ways.

Speaking as a recent poster, I can say that I couldn't have done the entire report in one sitting. It was easier for me to put each day in a separate thread. It hadn't occurred to me to put the link to the next day at the end. Thanks for the tip.

I prefer reading trip reports that are posted all in one thread, rather then "part 1", "part 2", etc.

I rarely click on any that are written in several parts, unless there are only 2-3 parts maybe, but those that are 8, 9, 10 parts long, nope I don't read them as it takes too long to "find" all the parts.

Yes, I can relate to the OP. I think I'm going to DAY 5 of a Western report and realize that it's someone elses Day 5....

on and on..... if there is no notation of "Characters" on each separate day it can get confusing. Especially if you log on several days later and continue to read the report.

But I also learned something new with this thread. I will have to pull up these reports that way.

I love the detailed trip reports, especially when they note Western or Eastern.

It seemed like last year trip reports were posted in one thread and now it seems to be the trend for day - by - day threads.

I will still read em though! :flower1:

I agree with GRIZ....I do not have the luxury of sitting down and writing a 7-10 day report at one time.

I have to write what I can...when I can. I'm not a computer genius, I don't know how to type in Word or Word Perfect and then cut and paste to the site.

I like the long reports...I print them out and then read them when the house is quiet(very late at night) and then dream away...that I'm back on the Magic....or Wonder......or Magic....

If no one wants to read my reports when they are done...then don't read them...that's all I have to say.

Phyllis

Please post the reports!

I make the suggestion only so that it is easier to read and follow. If I am reading the report and cant find parts 2 and 5 of a report I why bother?

If you can't write the entire report at once try one of the following:

Write the report in MS Word, when its complete - copy and past it into a new thread.

Start a thread and your report. And then just "REPLY" and add the rest of your report later on...

I can relate to this. I have often wondered why so many people post in seperate days. It is confusing and hard to find all the parts. Usually I don't read them unless the trip report forum is slow.....then I will. I'm not saying that those of you who post this way shouldn't post. I'm just saying that I don't enjoy searching for all the info. I just tried what one of the other posters suggested about putting them in order by who wrote the message. That works very well. I had no idea you could do that. Thanks for the tip.

I like that idea JFS! Hitting the reply button and adding on! That way the OP can answer questions at the same time in the same place!

I know when I was planning for our recent cruise, I was looking for specific information on the trip report boards. I wasn't following people's trips from start to finish, but was looking for posts with Grand Cayman and Cozumel in the title. I wouldn't bother with at sea days or Castaway Cay, but really appreciated detailed reports on excursions to help me decide. If I wanted to leisurely follow someone's post from emarkation to disembarkation, I still had the luxury to do so and never found it difficult. While others won't bother to read posts in segments, I was not bothering with posts such as "2/28 western". I guess people come to these boards with different intents, and we can all just choose to read the style of posts we are comfortable with. I hope that didn't come out snitty, because that was not my intention, just trying to offer a different perspective.

The thing that i do on other boards/trip reports is, start a thread and name it..."Goofygals Mother's Day trip report". Then I post my first trip report/day. If i have time, i hit the "reply" button and post the next day. I use the same thread, but just post *each day* in a different "reply" post. that way i can quickly look and see what i have posted and if i forgot anything, it is very easy to add it to the next reply post. It may take a few days to post the whole trip report, but when all is said and done...the whole trip is in ONE nice and neat thread and easily found and read by others!

I really enjoy reading the trip reports here, we now have 350+ days to go, and really trying to keep that disney magic alive by reading trip reports and looking at pictures! Sometimes i just dont have the time to search and find all the posts and read them. Then when I come back I have to search through them all and find where I left off.

ANYWAYS....however they are posted....Just know that we all ENJOY THEM and are always excited to see NEW TRIP REPORTS!!!!!!!!!!:Pinkbounc :smooth: :earsboy: ::yes:: :hyper:

Can someone please explain to me how to provide a link to the next episode.
I would really like to be courteous - I just don't know how.
Thank you Dodie - I didn't know this was something I could do.
I'm still in the learning curve.::yes::

The link is an http:// tag that you see when you create the post. Go to the "second" episode and copy the address from your browser. Then go back to the first episode and edit it, clicking on the "http://" and enter what you want it to say, click OK and paste the address you copied. Then save the post.

Hope this makes sense.

this whole "thread starter" clue just made my life a more wonderful thing!!
