Consignment Sale

Before I would sell good condition gymboree, Ralph Lauren, etc. for $1 I would donate it.

The $1 tag sale is from people not picking up their items after 3-4 months. The store claims everything with a certain tag color and marks them $1.

I also sell on Craigslist and some of the mom forums. I have participated in the last 2 consignment sales Spring/Summer and Fall/Winter. It was odd that some things sold that I could not sell on Craigslist. There are LOTS of clothes and less toys/books/accessories so you are competing against alot to get people to purchase clothing. Things like a Floppy Seat shopping cart cover went on the first night. Socks and hats went well and clothing only so-so. I would sell Gymboree tops on Craigslist for $2. Mine are used little for one child, washed in cold and hung dry so in almost new condition. I priced similar tops for $3-$3.50 at the consignment sale and most sold. My 2 piece outfits might sell on Craigslist for anywhere from $5 to $8. The $5 sets go quickly. The brand new ones I have listed for over $10 don't get much interest. A special Easter or Christmas dress might go for $10 and simple cotton ones for $5. I list my items at the Consignment sale for about what I would get on Craigslist - maybe a $1 or $2 more. But I don't think I'll do this next sale. I end up taking in maybe 150 items and get a check for around $150 to $200. I sell only maybe half of what I take in at most. Some people make thousands I hear though so I am not sure what they are selling and what they price at.

I've been selling at the semi-annual consignment type sales for the past 6-7 years. I've definitely seen a decline in profits with the downturn in the economy. I used to buy stuff at garage sales to resell at the consignment sale and did quite well, but not anymore.

At the last sale, most of the buyers came on the last day (50% off) and I couldn't believe the items I had that went for half-price. In the past, all my really good stuff would be long gone before 50% off day because I priced it reasonably. Not this time. I was sick when I saw the prices some things went for.

I've got another one coming up in April and if money wasn't so tight, I would just donate the clothes quite honestly. I just filed our taxes with Taxact and I used their online donation guide for assigning values, and was shocked by how much you're allowed to claim for clothing. We donated around 400 items last year and got over $3,000 in deductions. Granted, a lot of that was adult clothing and there was some high value things in there (like leather coats), but still it made a big difference in our refund.

At this point my kids are getting older and it's starting to feel like all the work just isn't worth it anymore. I'm going to do the spring sale and depending on how that goes I may or may not participate in the fall sale.

OP, I'd stick with the lowest pricing you feel comfortable with depending on how badly you want this stuff gone ;)

I've been doing my mom's club consignment sale for the last nine years. My kids wear lots of Gymbo clothes and are kept in decent condition. I do price on the lower side and depending how faded the pieces are, but generally I do $5.00 for an outfit. I know I could price higher, but I do want the bulk of my clothes to sell. MY clothes DO SELL!! I actually have quite a few moms who know my kids wear Gymbo & Land's End and place dibs on the clothes before the sale starts!! And all of the clothes were bought on sale, most very on sale or were gifts from the grandparents so I feel good about getting money back on the clothes plus my own kids have enjoyed them. Love consigment sale selling!! Good luck on yours!

Hi! I have also been involved with a semi-annual consignment sale for several years and I think a decent price for Gymbo outfits in great condition would be between $5 and $7. As someone else also mentioned, if you have the matching acces. with it you could ask more! I am able to buy so much Gymbo on clearance really cheap, I really wouldn't pay more than that myself!:rotfl:

I honestly wouldn't pay more than $7 for a Gymbo outfit/dress. I only buy Gymbo on sale in the stores because I don't think it's worth the full retail price. Hanna Andersson is different - better quality, lasts longer, doesn't hold stains, organic materials, etc.
