Hi Budget Disers--

Several weeks ago I posted a question about consignment sales and your experiences with them. I did my first cons. sale in late March and just received my check. It was for $231!!!!! I am SOOOO happy. When I went to pick up my unsold items, I was a little disappointed because it looked like I was still bringing home a lot. Most of my items sold for full price with a few going during the half-price sale. The group running it ( a charity) did a great job collecting the tags and doing a spread sheet of the items, prices, precentages, etc.

Thanks for the advice many of you gave me.

I definitely recommend it.

Wow, you did great!! What type of things did you sell? What group held the sale? Are you in NoVA? My favorite sale was cancelled & always looking for new sales to mark on the calendar.

Enjoy spending your earnings!

Wow! That is AWESOME!

Don't be disappointed about what you brought home - now you can have a yard sale!! :D

I just did my first consignment sale today and did well - $123.00 - but you did really well! I only had 150 items, all clothes up for sale so I thought it went well. I have ALOT more of my DD's clothes to sell and will definetly do the consignment route again. Mine was sponsered by our church's school. They gave you your profits and a tally of all things sold the afternoon of the sale which was really nice. :)

I mostly sold DD's old clothes from size 2T to size 5. She had a MAJOR growth spurt last year and I could hardly keep her in clothes and just about went broke. I also started clearing out some of the baby stuff now that DS is 8 months old. I sold the swing, a bouncy seat and some booster chair type thing that attaches to a table (I was always too scared to use it -- didn't seem very stable to me). Lots of shoes, socks, bottles, etc. A few of the clothes were very nice and priced higher, but most of it I had at $1 or $2. I figured I'd still get more for it this way than at a yard sale. I also sold the bathing suits and underwear I had questions about putting in the sale.

If you volunteered, you earned 70% commission, so I did a shift Friday night helping to set up. That also earned me early shopping on Sat. morning and I was able to see what was there the night before. I did go back and shop. I got 102 Dalmations, Patch's London Adventure on DVD for $2 as well as Tarzan and Jane. Also got DS a few things, spent about $18 total.

StephMK -- this sale was in Sterling and sponsored by Catholic Consignments (they have a website catholicconsignments.com). I am getting ready to do the one at Ida Lee in Leesburg next weekend with the stuff I have leftover. Have you ever done Dani's Duds in Chantilly? I haven't, but have a co-worker who has done well there.

MinnieG -- does that mean you are having a boy???

I guess I'm not familiar with consignment sales. I gather they're some sort of garage/rummage sale from which you get a consignment? I've found a store that sells children's clothes on consignment. This store pays up front for the merchandise, as opposed to waiting for it to sell. You might get less for the items, but you avoid the hassle of several trips for small sums of money. Could someone explain what the consignment sales discussed on this thread consist of? Thanks!:sunny:

Around me, they call them "turnabout" sales and they're usually run by local churches to raise money. For a small consignment fee ($5) and a percentage of your sales (5-10%), they do all the selling and advertising. You label + price the clothing, drop it off the day before the sale. You come back the day after the sale and collect your $$.

Usually the 2nd day of the sale is ½-price day. All tickets marked with a red dot can be purchased for ½-price. Those without a red dot are still full price. The seller decides whether to sell at ½-price or not. They also let you tag your items for pick up after the end of the sale or donation to charity.

I made over $200 selling the childrens' outgown clothing a couple of years ago at one of those sales. They mostly dealt in clothing for grade-school and younger. Now that my children are older, eBay is a better way to sell. I'd much rather do the consignment sales...less hassle, over in a couple days, and cash in your hand immediately .

Thanks for their addy, will have to check them out! I'm in Burke so that's not far at all. Haven't been/sold at Dani's but think I'm going to look for them too.

Good deal on your sale!
