Considering skipping Epcot. Are we crazy?

My younger kids usually "survive" EPCOT more than enjoy it. They do love some of the rides such as Spaceship Earth and SOARIN, but it just isn't at the same level for them as MK. The street shows can be great, but they're hit or miss, we normally just stumble into one if we're lucky. We are always MK-heavy in our trips as there is just more to do with kiddos. Other than the Agent P missions, my kids find the walking to attraction ratio to be too high in World Showcase. I thought the Agent P missions would help us get deeper into some of the cool exhibits, but basically my kids would hurry to a clue, find it, watch it, then hurry to the next...barely any stopping to really look around.

We do EPCOT, but if I had to choose between it and a second day at MK...I'd go for the second day at MK every time.

I don't even bother to go to MK so of course I would go to Epcot. But or the OP's family it might not be a good match.

However, the number one skip on my list right now is Studios. Waste of time :(

Same here! I would never skip Epcot, it's my favorite park. We are skipping Hollywood Studios too, nothing there worth going to for us.

See, it just totally depends. My boys don't really care about characters in general (we are doing one character breakfast and that's it) but they would flip out of we didn't go HS for the Star Wars photo ops and the Tower of Terror. Granted I have a long break scheduled that day for pool time and offsite dinner before we come back for the Star Wars fireworks and Fantasmic

I would completely skip it this trip, but TT is an absolute must do for DS. We are just doing it on our half day before we fly out. WS is not of interest to our family, and we don't want to spend time in the pavilions.

We always, always do two MK days.

(I know I'm in the very small minority, but) no Captain EO=no need to visit future world

(soarin? meh.)

We will be there 4 days in late March. I've been to WDW 4 times, but the grandkids have never been at all. One day will be at Universal as we are Harry Potter fans. I want the kids to see Epcot and am thinking it won't be a full day so we can chill at the pool in the afternoon or go to one of the other parks. (We got park hoppers.)

I am doing a short trip for the first time in April. Only four nights, three and a half days. I will do a full day in MK plus another half-day evening. I have Epcot plugged in for the morning of that half-day to check out the topiaries and get some good food from the festival kiosks. Then I may go back to either Epcot or MK the day I leave. My last few trips have been during Food & Wine and Flower & Garden, so Epcot has become more or less the world's largest food court to me and I might pass through a couple of times to eat during a longer trip but not spend a large amount of time in Future World.

On a couple of past trips I skipped Animal Kingdom to go the darkside and visit Harry. This trip I am doing AK in the morning with DHS in the evening mainly to see the SW Fireworks and hopefully Club Villain if it gets extended to April. I could never skip MK because to me that IS Disney.

As a Mission Space Fan( i think i am the only one ) i love Epcot but if you not really into rides like that then maybe its good to skip. Epcot is great for me due to the Rides and touring the world and eating and drinking

I say get park hoppers. I know that DHS and AK are usually half day parks for us so if you find the same, then you'll be able to hop over to Epcot for a half day. Alternatively, you could split the difference and do one and a half days at MK, and spend the second half at Epcot. Even though there are some parks we like better than others, we only visit once a year and travel from upstate NY so we never skip a park.

To answer your title question alone, yes anyone is crazy to skip Epcot. Epcot for me is World Showcase but with what you said about your kids I would say just do a half day. Go to rope drop and do Test Track and Mission Space and you should do the stuff you like because it's your vacation too! Maybe they can do TT a couple times, that would give you plenty of time to do Figment and Nemo for sure. Skip World Showcase and then hop on the monorail to MK.

AK is not a half day park! It's a take your time and enjoy park. So much there to see. It's too beautiful there to rush through!

A lot of families are making the same decision that you are, so just be prepared for higher crowds at MK and have fun.

This is true. You may want to start your day at MK for EMH and when the crowds get heavy there head over to Epcot for a while.

I said it's a half day park FOR US. Just as it is for many other people. Whether it is or isn't is a matter of opinion. My point was that if the OP does not usually or plan to spend a full day at AK, she could use a park hopper to visit Epcot for the remainder of the day.

Yes. You are crazy.

All kidding aside. I understand your predicament. Epcot is an awesome adult park with the culture of World Showcase and so on. However, I can easily understand that boys your children's age would be bored at Epcot. Test Track is an awesome attraction for boys but that's about all they would have to look forward too at that park. If Innoventions was up and running at it's full capacity, I would consider it.

we are planning a trip next month. I didn't realize the monorail went from epcot to mk. Where is the monorail pickup located???

Get on the monorail just outside the front gate of EPCOT and take it to the Transportation and Ticket Center and switch monorails to MK. Of course you'd need hoppers for this and you've mentioned since that you don't have them, so...

Our DD is only 37" tall so can't get any of the "fun" rides (according to me and DH) and he doesn't want to do rider swap. His philosophy is - when she can ride with us, then we ride. So for us there is not much other reason to go to Epcot right now. I would probably enjoy food & wine and visiting the countries in world showcase but DH can't stand it. We're just big MK people and could spend a week easily just in MK. ALthough with the new Star Wars Fireworks and things like the Olaf meet & greet, we'll probably make HS a 1 or 2 day park, as well.

I wouldn't feel bad about skipping Epcot if your time is limited. I kind of forced it on my family last time despite DH telling me he didn't want to to and looking back that's the one day of our vacation that everyone had the least amount of fun.

It just depends on you and what your family wants. That's the beauty of Disney - lots to offer. Take what you like and leave the rest!

Clearly you're wrong. Just kidding! Yes many people feel the same I just don't get it but whatever floats your boat.
