Considering Self Terming

I love Disney, I love my job, the people I've met.. everything. But I've found a job that pays extremely well and self terming has crossed my mind to take on this opportunity. I have many professional internship applications that are pending though, and is it safe to assume I will be rejected from those upon leaving the company? Also, as a CP, am I right that I cannot request to go seasonal before the end date of my program? I would much rather go seasonal than quit, but I'm pretty sure I'm not able to do so. I haven't made any decisions and I'm still weighing out all options.

I would talk to someone at the program about your position and what your options are. Who knows, more things could be possible than you thought! But also, you would get definitive answers to these questions.

In my opinion, if you really have no desire long-term to work for Disney, then take your opportunity. Even if you do have a long-term goal, it wouldn't be a bad thing to go out and get a lot of experience and look at returning down the line.

If you leave before your expected time, you will be given a "no" or "restricted" rehire status.

I doubt you would still be considered for anything that you have recently already applied for PI-wise since you would have left with a non-desirable rehire (and obviously if these were alumni-only jobs).

I also doubt that would be able to go "seasonal" because you are essentially quitting. Glendailis (?sp) will probably chime in, but i dont think an area would want to keep someone around who just up and left them.

If you leave the program early,... AKA putting in your two weeks, you will be issued a "restricted" rehire status. Now that does lift itself after six months but I would also talk to your management staff before departing. They are the ones that disney calls in regards to lifting the status. If they know why you left and it generally seemed like a good idea to leave, I dont see a problem with them lifting it. If you turn in your ID and just leave (without putting in two weeks) you will 99.9% get a NO rehire status, meaning you can not work for Disney or any of it affiliates unless it is lifted for you. I have never really heard of anyone with a NO rehire status ever getting it actually lifted without actually having to meet with a board to review. I believe they want to see that you have kept a steady job, ect. I dont know about the PI question, that could be another thing your management staff could find out for you.

You will indeed receive a "No" or "Restricted" rehire status if you self-terminate before your work contract is completed. Walt Disney Parks and Resorts U.S., Inc. will not consider applications for Casual Temporary status from Disney College Program Participants until just before their contract term is complete.

As you will have an unfavourable rehire status, it is all extremely unlikely that you will be considered any further for any Disney Professional Internships opportunities you may have applied for.

Those were the answers I was expecting. I would love to stay with Disney long-term, but if something else comes along, it will definitely be a difficult decision. I don't even know if this company will offer me a position (is it bad that I'm kind of hoping they don't?), so as for right now, I'm staying with Disney =) and hopefully for a long time. If you did a Disney College Program at the Disneyland Resort in California, you can ring 800 766-0888. If you did a Disney College Program at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida, you can ring 407 828-1000.

Disney Cruise Line is actually part of Walt Disney Parks and Resorts.

Most people think the stores have nothing to do with the rest of the company...and while that was briefly true when Hoops Retail purchased the stores in late 2004, the Disney company again owns the stores as well. We had a CM who was terminated from the stores with a "no rehire" status. A few years later she applied to the parks in Florida was not able to get hired at all.

I made some stupid and unfortunate choices. I'm fine my mind isn't. I just have a lot on my mind and wish I could take it all back. But all I can do is try to move forward.

Sorry to hear. I would take the suggestion about finding out your current rehire status...that will save you a lot of time. Hopefully you were able to put in two weeks notice before you left and you are listed as restricted rehire. Communication is important and if you desire to work in another area of the company, it is important to keep the lines of communication open. Definitely give them a call to find out your current rehire status.

A "no rehire" is difficult to have lifted although there have been one or two cases that I know of that have been successfully lifted, however, it did involve meeting before review boards and such. I would assume it depends on the circumstances that led to the specific status.

A "restricted rehire" is a little easier to overcome (just a little) and it is my understanding that it does get lifted after a certain length of time..6 months? Glendalais probably knows better than I and hopefully they will chime in as well. I was with the company 9 1/2 years and really didn't pay too much attendtion to those sort of things at the time and also some of the rules have changed since I left. The cm that was terminated at my store with a "no rehire" status had been involved in an internal company policy issue which is pretty much the reason she has never been able to be rehired by the company again.

I think it is mostly a case by case scenario. You may find you might have to wait until you can apply again...but again, I am not positive on this point at all.

You may consider also speaking with your immediate supervisors (that you worked with before you left) and see if they can put in a good word on your behalf - it may not help but it can't hurt either.

Well based on some information I have read and other circumstances it seems as though leaving could get you a no rehire but that it generally speaking doesn't. I've also read cases online where people couldn't get hired from a Resricted and others where people got their No rehires lifted. What I need to do first is call and see which I am first and then make the appropriate actions towards getting back to Disney.

Thank you for your help. I got caught up in a bad way with a horrible girl and then my dads cancer got really aggressive and it was just too much to take. So I ran and I really regret it now.

Hopefully you will be able to get everything resolved and return to the company. I do remember when all of you were waiting to hear if you got in way back when and how excited you all were. You wanted it so badly. I will keep my fingers crossed for you.

So just an update they didn't specifaclly tell me which status I was but the lady I talked to told me to work for 6 months to a year and reapply. They would send me paper work and normally everything works out. So sounds like they are hinting restricted

I am considering self-terminating too. This internship has been one of the worst experiences and I don't think I can handle completing it. Thoughts?
