Considering renting an extended cab pickup rather than using my van...should I?

I have a lease van, and do not want to put the extra miles on, so I thought maybe I could rent an extended pickup truck to come to the Fort, and it would probably be cheaper than paying for mileage overage when I turn my lease in. Does anyone have info on this? I will be coming from Michigan next November. Do rental places even offer extended cab trucks with tow packages???????

I don't think you'll find a rental place that allows you to tow. When we were shopping for our camper we found a place that rented Aliners in Mass, but we didn't have the ability to tow. I looked into trying to rent a tow vehicle and came up empty, everything I found: A. didn't have tow packages, and B. prohibited towing in the contract language.

Rentals don't have hitches or light plugs. I remember a few years ago a guy I worked for bought a draw tite hitch for a Dodge. Whenever he rented a truck he always requested a Dodge and he would re-install it. If you have an accident then there might be a problem.

We were just at The Fort and met someone who rented a quad cab with a tow package. I don't know where he rented it from, but the info was on the side of the truck. Didn't write it down because I didn't think I would ever need it. I guess I was wrong.

I don't know of any car rental agencies with trucks that allow towing except maybe a UHaul which will run you rental plus mileage. They may restrict to towing their own trailers.
