Considering FW Cabin

Ok, so we are planning a family vaca in October of 2012 with my dh, me, 2 kids who will be 7 and 4 at the time, my mom, and my dn who will be 14. I had not considered fw at all, thinking more about Caribean beach or WL. However I like the idea of all 6 of us staying together and the wholesome atmosphere of the camp ground. We don't do much camping per say, but it is something from my youth I remember with fondness. Can anyone tell me why they like this resort over others like the 2 I mentioned earlier? Anyone who was unsure about going originally but loved it?

I've never stayed at CBR or WL, but I can tell you that we are previously-Poly-people-turned-FW cabin-people now. We absolutely love them. Full kitchen, separate bedroom, LOTS of room inside, great outdoors to let the kids play in, resort activities, riding around in the golf cart, etc. We're heading back exactly 90 days from today and I can't wait!

I thinking that if I didn't have the cabin behind me on the way down that cabins at the fort would be the only way to go. I really don't like hotel rooms, especially with multiple people. Even though the cabins, and my trailer, are not huge, there is enough room that you can kind of get away from each other, then there's the stuff to do around the fort.

Although I haven't stayed at the Fort in quit a while we will most likely be staying a cabin on our next trip.

I always feel confined in a hotel room. It is much more relaxing sitting outside in a campground than a hotel balcony (if you have a room with a balcony).

Last year we went to VA. None of the hotels in the area appealed to us. We ended up in a cabin at a KOA. The kids had a much better time there than they would have in a hotel room. There were pleny of activities for the kids such as bikes and an air filled trampoline thing (think inflated bouncing castle without the walls).

This year we are going to Hershey. Again staying in a campground cabin.

Seems like most people who try them, really like them. I wonder if the August heat will make it more oppressive, or nicer because of all the trees. All Star Music is just so "concrete" and the Fort looks so peaceful and comfy!

So then maybe we'll see you there! We get there on the 16th. A Golf cart will add another $250 to our trip cost, so we're not sure if we want to spend it. On the other hand, we're thinking that staying at FW might eliminate our need for the water parks. Originally we figured on going to Blizzard Beach most afternoons, since we expect ASMu's pool to be pretty crowded.

We'll also arrive there on the 16th, staying thru the 23rd. And thats exactly what we did, swapped the water park option for the golf cart. We now have a "resort only" day planned. Our ADR for that day is at WCC across the lake for dinner and thats it for leaving the park.

I totally agree with all of the above. However, you should remember that the cabins only have 1 bathroom which for some families is OK and others not so much. Just something to keep in mind.

For us it would be worth the "only 1 bathroom" just to stay at the Fort!

I stayed in a cabin after Easter this year, and it was great. I didn't book a golf cart, but I was able to get around fine on the bus system. There was only one time I really had to wait more than 5 minutes for a bus (I needed the orange bus to get to the main pool - if I'd needed to get to the settlement, three purple buses went by while I was waiting) and the buses weren't crowded at all (probably because everyone rented carts?). I did have a car with me, and I did use it to go to parks other than MK. It was really nice to know I could stay out as late as I wanted and not have to worry about finding a parking spot back at the resort at the end of the night.
