My husband and I have been researching buying into the DVC. We have visited WDW once a year since 2004 and stayed at either the Grand Floridian or Polynesian. From what we have read as long as we want to continue staying at a deluxe resort and plan to visit at least once every other year, the DVC is right for us. Just wondering if there are any downfalls to the DVC. Every review that we have read seems to be very positive. Before we make the big leap we want to be sure there aren't any negatives that we overlooked.

We really love DVC.

As with most timeshares, you don't get daily mousekeeping, or have to pay for it. {Not a big deal, or actually preferred to some owners.}

Plus, the resorts don't get updated quite as often as the other deluxe rooms. (I've not had a problem.)

That's about it, in my book. I'm sure others will pipe in.

On the positive side, you get very spacious accomodations, some with hot tubs and washer/dryers, oh yeah...and a kitchen. Its a very fair tradeoff imho.

Getting to stay in Hilton Head and Vero Beach on points is a really great added bonus!

We just became members this past winter having gone to Disney and staying at the CR for many years.

With the addition of BLT to DVC, we knew it was the right time for us. One thing that is very important is the choice of home resort and UY (if you know you want to vacation certain times of the year) and planning.

DVC works out very well for those of us who can plan at least 7 months in advance. We bought BLT so we could book there at 11 months and ensure we have the room we want.

While getting rooms once the 7 month mark rolls around (and everyone can book at all the resorts) is possible, it is nice to know that we will be where we want to stay from the beginning.

If you can't plan your vacations that far in advance, then home resort becomes less important.

Good luck!

Since you mentioned the GF and Poly, I'll just add that DVC is only a good value if you plan to stay at the DVC resorts. While we do currently have the ability to trade out to non-DVC resorts like GF and Poly, the point costs are extremely high, generally go up every year, and there's a $95 exchange fee for each reservation.

If you're wanting to stay at DVC resorts, I think you'll find DVC to be a terrific value. That's essentially why I joined, to stay at deluxes for less than the cost of a moderate, and it's worked out wonderfully well for me. :thumbsup2

Yes imho DVC would be a great choice for you.
Our family also goes to WDW every year and we did this before and while we have kids and intend to do this when our kids are older.
We love WDW:yay:

We also love to stay at the delux resorts like the boardwalk so yes DVC would be a good value if you went at least every other year and like to stay at delux resorts.:woohoo:

When I first bought into DVC in 2008, my goal was to travel to WDW every 2-3 years. Well, after my first trip, I found myself wanting to go back almost immediately. We are going back about a year since our last trip and next year, we may even go twice.

Also.....beware of addon-itis!!! Once you start traveling DVC, you start wanting bigger and better accomodations and then you start adding on more points. It can become addicting. I myself added on twice since my 2008 purchase. I originally thought my son and I would only need a studio, but after I stayed in a 1BR, I can never go back.

If it's the right decision for you financially, I can't imagine that you will regret your decision.

thanks for all the advice and insight. Since we definitely enjoy staying on the monorail line we are looking into BLT as our home resort. I know this is a good decision. Now I just have to convince DH;)
