Help! I have a tentative contract for 30 whopping pts at BCV. Live in Oregon, and not sure how often we'd get to Orlando, so thinking that we could live with these pts for a while, renting the extra we need, and see how it goes our next trip. Any thoughts out there??? My husband is super skeptical... Has this worked for any one else??? Would I be better off waiting to find 100 pts or so???

Have you 'played' with the calculator found at the top of this page under "DVC Point Charts"? Try out certain dates to see how much a vacation would cost in terms of points. 30 points won't get you much, even banking and borrowing for a trip every 3 years, and I assume coming as far as you have to from Oregon, you would not want a super short trip. Remember that sun - thurs. nights are your most cost efficient nights.

Candace,
Yeah, I've done so much research, my head's spinning. We'd need at least a 1br each time w/3 kids... Love BCV, but then again, if we're not gonna go at prime times and we'd like to try different resorts, maybe we would get a better value by buying at OKW... Also, I think we'd probably go to Disneyland alot, too, because of its proximity to us... Just can't decide what to do...

Yes, go for a bigger contract and pass that itty bitty one on to me! (TIC)

I figure 65 pts would be good for a BCV studuio 5 days mid to late August. But would have to watch out for ticket prices near Labor day weekend. So could go every other year and buy a few rental points.

danarward - Another thing to consider is that with 3 kids, you will eventually need a second bedroom - and you will definitely want it along with the extra bathroom. I'd say go for at least the 65 points, if available, as the other poster suggested. OKW has the largest rooms, in addition to the fewest point requirements. HTH

I saw this too. A low price for sure but not quite enough. I think for BCV I would want at least 70.

Someone, "acruiser" maybe, has a thread saying that he just bought 30 SSR points and he mentions his plans for the points. So, 30 is a "starter" number for at least one other Diser.

Best wishes.

Okay,
So what I seem to be hearing is.... if I have the cash, which I do, bypass the 30 and go for more (say 100) at OKW, since they're probably cheaper. Then, if I want to or am able to, I can use them wherever. I'm thinking that even if we only go every 2 years for the next 10, we'll redeem our money?

You should try to start with 150 or more points. 30 points will get you approx 2-3 nights only mid week ak 1 night on Fri or Sat. I would pass on 30 points for now and wait for 150. If you are already working with someone at the Timeshare Store they will look for you and let you know.

Thanks so much for the input.... my husband is so skeptical about buying timeshares since we've bought weeks thru RCI for fundraisers and have been relatively unimpressed by this process. So, I'm agonizing over this because I just want it to be a good investment for us.....

How are you figuring 2-3 nights midweek, when a one bedroom at BCV during the lowest season requires 22 points per night.

You can use your points at Disneyland, but it's not the best way to use the points. You'll spend more of your points on a hotel room than you would on a studio. Ultimately, you'll have 90 points every three years to use with banking and borrowing. Can you live with that? We started with 175 and quickly added another 75 because we decided we'd like to go at least twice a year. After staying in a studio, we quickly decided we rather stay in a one bedroom. Now we're even thinking of the two bedroom villa (we have one son and we occasionally invite others to go with us). We had four of us in a one bedroom SSR in October and felt very crowded. We'll have 8 later on this week at OKW in a two bedroom where there is more room, so hopefully we won't feel too crowded there.

We now have 500 points. We think that will do it. We have used points for the 4 night Disney Cruise, but have used all the rest at WDW.
