Holy cow Debbie - is your son still there?

We homeschool our kids, but he plays sports for Wasilla High. So, no, he isn't there now, but was headed up to basketball practice shortly. We'll see what happens.

:scared1: First the Church fire, now this???

Did things like this ever happen up there before Governor Palin was a candidate for VP?

It seems there are always bomb threats at schools nowadays...:sad2: ...but I don't remember kids being locked in before.

OH MY GOSH!!!! that is HEINOUS!!! i hope nothing happens.

i heard on the news this morning that interior alaska is -60!!!!! is there such a thing as -60??? i seriously cannot imagine that level of cold.

Yes, it is -60 in interior Alaska. We've been having highs of -20 and lows of -38 where I am (just outside of Wasilla). This has been a LONG cold snap. I'm ready for it to be over. Good news is, I'm headed to Disney in 17 days!:yay: :yay:

"President-elect's proposed tax cuts hit hurdle from senators in his own party who say it wouldn't do much to jolt economy."

I don't know why people are afraid we are heading into socialism considering we are already there. The bailouts and Social Security alone make us socialistic. was watching Fox and that guy that used to be a Clinton aid? now Republican was talking to Hannity and Colmes (one of the few times I watch it). He said Bush is the most socialistic president we have had in terms of advancing the ideas. The bailout was just the thing that added to it. Short of socialized medicine and a few other things, we have been there for a long time.

Ok, I'm officially giving up name calling Obama....except for here! :lmao:

hehe......saw ya out there....... OS do get a bit sensitive to such things......

Name-Calling is within their exclusive domain (if you recall the last 8 years as an example).

all good points, but i'd really prefer to not go any further into the pit of socialism, and get back to where we should be; where we the people are the government and the people in washington work for US, not against us (said gaston.)

"What is different is the ominous message from our president-elect. The country is ready for a change in tone, for a message of –- dare I say it –- hope. Everyone, including those who didn’t vote for the man, is hoping that Mr. Obama can bring peace and prosperity to this country. There is an irrational but tangible feeling in the air that Obama can deliver miracles, that he is uncorrupted, that he is smart and has solutions to the nation’s ills in his pocket.

It is singularly deflating, then, when Obama talks trash about the economy. His purpose, I imagine, is two-fold: First, he needs to get Americans on board with a gigantic spending program that he feels is necessary to put people to work and breathe some life into the economy. Second, if he prepares people to expect truly dreadful times ahead, anything less horrendous will be added to the plus side of the Obama ledger. Just like corporate managements, Mr. Obama can only win by outperforming expectations."

He's not an idiot, he knows that people have this completely unrealistic expectations of what he was going to do for them. He had to put something out there that would minimize that so they won't turn on him when he disappoints them-which he WILL do. Nobody could realistically keep up with what people think he'll do.

Oooo, Do tell. popcorn::
He's actually a friend of a friend.... she got me and him to talking and I really like him alot.:goodvibes

When DH and I first met, one of the first things he told me was that if I called while Glenn was on, he wasn't answering the phone, and it was pretty much a requirement to date that I like (or at least pretend that I do) Glenn. :rotfl:
Well if a guy wants to date me he better 1) like Glenn, 2) like WDW, 3) be a Christian and 4) be a conservative. And the guy I'm talking to now meets all those requrements.:woohoo:

I second the hmmmmm. Seems between your CP and now this, we'll be having some stories to hear for quite some time.:thumbsup2

Nobody could realistically keep up with what people think he'll do.

that's for sure. although the word "idiot" did come out of my mouth this morning while he was, once again, preempting good morning america in order to spew more of his nothingness.

As someone said before, the US has had socialist-type policies for years, in fact Reagan like Obama supported negative income tax for the lower classes. Does that make Reagan a socialist as well????

I'm confused. It seems there are some libs giving Obama a pass on invoking the name of God because maybe he's just doing it for show. I think I would be more bothered by a person being a phony in regards to their beliefs, then just allowing them the freedom to express themselves however they choose. There was a time during all that Wright fiasco when I wondered if Obama had used the church to ingratiate himself within the community, but I had hoped that his faith was genuine. Now after reading some comments, it puzzles me why people would consider it's possibly just an acceptable sham.

Even some Atheists are giving him a pass during the searing in ceremony no less:

Atheists: Remove ‘So Help Me God’ From Inaugural Oath

Thursday, January 8, 2009 10:27 AM

By: Rick Pedraza

Atheists and several non-religious organizations have filed a 39-page lawsuit to prohibit the use of religious phrases and references to God when President-elect Barack Obama takes the oath of office Jan. 20.

The lawsuit, filed Tuesday in Washington, demands the words “so help me God” and other “explicitly religious dogma” not be uttered at the end of the swearing-in ceremony, the Washington Post reports. In addition, the suit will try to prohibit ministers from invoking a benediction in which God and religion are discussed.

"There can be no purpose for placing 'so help me God' in an oath or sponsoring prayers to God, other than promoting the particular point of view that God exists," says the lawsuit, posted online by a California lawyer who has filed similar and unsuccessful suits over inauguration ceremonies.

Parties to the suit, which states references to God during inauguration ceremonies violates the Constitution's ban on the establishment of religion, include the American Humanist Association; the Freedom from Religion Foundation; atheist groups from Minnesota, Seattle, Washington and Florida; and a handful of other groups advocating religious freedom or atheism.

Atheists contend having to watch a ceremony with religious components will make them feel excluded and stigmatized.

"Plaintiffs are placed in the untenable position of having to choose between not watching the presidential inauguration or being forced to countenance endorsements of purely religious notions that they expressly deny," the lawsuit reads.

Supreme Court Chief Justice John Roberts, who is expected to swear in Obama, is named in the suit, along with the Presidential Inauguration Committee, the Joint Congressional Committee on Inauguration Ceremonies, Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., the Armed Forces Inaugural Committee, and Maj. Gen. Richard Rowe Jr.

The Rev. Rick Warren and the Rev. Joseph Lowery, both scheduled to participate in the ceremony, also are named.

CNN reports that Obama, who will use the Bible Abraham Lincoln used for his inauguration, is not named in the suit because of his rights as an individual that allow him to express religious beliefs.

The Supreme Court has stated that public acknowledgments of God “are ceremonial, not theological, and serve the legitimate secular purposes of solemnizing public occasions, expressing confidence in the future, and encouraging the recognition of what is worthy of appreciation in society."

Shouldn't Obama be part of this suit to since he is a Government employee taking an oath so that he can perform his public office? Sounds a little hypocritical to sue everybody else but leave him out.

Sure, there are elements of Socialism that have crept into our system over the years as a result of bi-partisan squeamishness on our part. IMHO, Social Security just makes us all look dumb.....it's not so much Socialist, as it is a gigantic and banal Ponzi Scheme.......

President Bush was not a Socialist at all. Unfortunately, his ideals of "Compassionate Conservatism" as applied to domestic policy, watered down true conservatism to the point where it became indistinguishable from Liberal Policy positions (No Child Left Behind? etc etc).

We Conservatives need to face facts. We are not the party that offers everybody everything they think they want.......and then doesn't deliver. That is purely Liberal territory and they will "double-down" on us every time we try to do it. They Over-promise and Under-deliver every. single. time. Just watch what happens over the next two years.

What I mean is, how do you keep a promise to "heal the planet" and "change the world" and "eliminate nuclear weapons" etc etc..... & all of this is going to be come from one small house situated in the middle of Washington D.C. anyways? Truth? None of this will happen, but people like to hear that kinda stuff when they think the world is crashing down around their ears....

We are the Party that promises if you study hard, work hard, save your money and take care of your obligations, you will prosper in this country. We are the party that understands that the vast majority of the world languishes far behind us in every single measure (with the possible exception of the misery index). We know this comes from freedom. We also know that the amount of freedom we can exercise is inversely proportional to the amount of power our Government has over us.

They don't know that yet, but they will find out.

In truth, President Bush has impressive and consistent record on foreign policy post 9/11.....and one that will make it into the History books as a defining moment in solidifying US commitment to Democracy in the Middle East & confirming US commitment to defending ou way of life from those mean to harm us. The day of the Tyrants is drawing to a close. The naysayers of this are just plain wrong and time will sort them out.

In the meantime, we simply need to defend our ideals, organize and let come what will come.

Sorry so verbose. It is a slow week at work........I have planned out our Spring Break trip to the T........guess I am just bored (nice feeling sometimes).
