As for the new budget, that article sure was enlightening. I'm sure many will disagree with me, but I actually like the idea of the tatoo removal program for gang members. I don't like the federal government paying for it, however. That's the state's and/or city's responisbility, IMO. And why should just that one district get it? Tons of districts across the country have horrible gang problems.

I say all this as someone who lives in an area where a lot of young boys think the only real friendship/family they'll ever have is in a gang. Guy I went to high school with is currently in jail for murdering a woman as his gang initiation. The tatoos stay with them always; getting out is near impossible enough without having a readily identifiable mark on you. I'd like to see something like that program in all areas with gang issues, but NOT paid for by federal money. If your city has no gang issues or very few, those citizens shouldn't be paying to clean up the problems in a city with horrible gang issues. I'm not opposed to federal loans for programs like that, but gimme money for it? No. Anyhow.

On an unrelated note, anyone watch Idol tonight? Wow. This season is shaping up to be quite painful on the ol' eardrums.

And as for Lent... I went to a religious private school for years that was a denomination other than my own. They'd always ask us what we were giving up for Lent. I think at first I came up with something, but never after that. I didn't even know what Lent was at the time! Baptists (at least in my neck of the woods) don't observe it.

I think one reason I like the Southern Baptist denomination as much as I do is it's so simple. No ceremony, no ritual, no nothing. Well, ritual of eating fried chicken and/or meat loaf at Wednesday night dinner aside, that is... My mom still tells the story of the first time she took me to the nursery at our church when I was a toddler. They wanted to give me dry Cheerios because that was the snack for the day. I wasn't eating hard cereal at that point; she said she didn't think I'd like it quite yet, but give it a try. The man said "She's a Baptist; she'll eat it." And I did!

I respect and admire those who can give something meaningful up for Lent. Just glad it's not something I observe. There's already so much Baptists can't do in the first place, that I'd have next to nothing left to do with my time!

Offer up the brain tumor as a penance and that would fulfill your obligation. From what I've read through the years, it's good to offer up suffering because God uses it for good. Offer it up and ask God to use it to cure brain tumors, or to feed hungry children, or to use however He wants to use it.

Now this one is my favorite so far!!!!!!!!!!! Suffering sucks! I'll gladly give that up! A cure for brain tumors would be so nice, but if we go to Nationalized health care, that's NOT going to happen.

I have been thinking about Lent and have decided I am giving up the CB with the exception of this thread. I still have a trip to plan so won't give up the Dis but I will give up the loony's out there. Truth is it does not make any difference to try to explain to them our position and I am done trying. I will never believe as they do and they will never understand why I make the choices I do. They won so ok. I am done. I know that is exactly what they want but I have to change my focus now to protecting my family and doing what I can to save what little assets we have at this point. I guess I just realize I am wasting my time. I am also giving up listening to the president. He can say whatever if I don't hear it then it cannot get me upset. I am completely despondent at this point. I cannot take anymore without just crawling into a corner and hiding!!! What do they say Ignorance is bliss? Well for a few weeks I am choosing ignorance to all their hope and change! I will spend the time in prayer for our leaders and remember my faith is in God.

Remeber that the Dems say it is patriotic to pay your taxes. I love how all of them say something like this:

"If I made that much money, I would be glad to pay a little extra to help out the country"

Of course they are talking about an increase in their tax rate, but nothing is stopping them from overpaying their taxes now. So go ahead and live up to your beliefs and pay a little extra when you pay your taxes. The Federal Government will gladly take it.

Of course none of them do it, they just like to complain but when it comes to putting their money where their mouth is...they can't bring themselves to do it.

Thanks Wonder! Having a sense of humor keeps me sane (well, as sane as a sick twisted Glenn Beck freak can be... ) I like the idea of giving up Lent! I really want to give up the no meat thing on Fridays, that bugs me 'cause I eat A LOT of cheese sandwiches (I'm not much of a fish person). I may have to ask the parish priest if I can take a year off and hit it harder next year, that's a good idea too!!!!!

I'm interested to see what I get served in the hospital on Friday after my surgery, I wonder if I'll get fish all day?????????

i was listening to this with my father. i turned to him and said, "this is typical of this guy...what is their definition of "responsible"?

just like all the education fixin' they're talking about. what does that mean and how do you plan to pay for it?

i believe chocolate cake is the recommended post-surgery diet.
