:rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: yeah, gotta love those junior high days....:scared1:

This cemetery has regular tours -- for Halloween, volunteers will dress up as some of the people buried there and do reenactments of their lives [not creepy, just historical]. In the spring, there's an arboretum tour. It really is a beautiful place - a big hot spot for photographers. I had seen in the paper yesterday that there was a Valentine's Day tour and it so happened that the weather was gorgeous [bright and crisp] - sounded interesting so I went.

I promise, I'm not morbid as a rule.

How long is the Halloween tour? That sounds like that would be so much fun (in a somewhat macabre kind of way.)

Yay for Tink....

on my Valentine's Day I went to our oldest cemetery for a tour -- the guide told stories about the romantic lives of our city's founders...I figured that visiting a cemetery on Valentine's Day was a fitting commentary of my love life :rotfl: :rotfl:
No, pink roses aren't my favorite, but I'll take 'em! :rotfl: I prefer tropical flowers, actually...plumeria and hibiscus are my favs but you can't get those here.
I love Tink, too...hence the name and all my stuff.

The cemetery sounds cool. I like to visit them, especially the old ones. I look at them and imagine what their lives were like, what they looked like, who they were as people. Weird of me, I know.[/quote]

I like Cemeteries also...the real old ones...the stones are interesting just because they are so old Nady I to like to wonder what there lives were like.

And I like wild flowers :thumbsup2

And it's our patriotic duty to pay taxes, right??!?!?!!? Especially those for projects we have no idea about, right?!?!?!?

:sad2:

That's only for rich Americans. Unless....they've been nominated for a position in Obama's administration. :rotfl:

You're so right, TL -- sooooo, if we can manage to get a nomination for a Cabinet position, we don't have to pay our taxes? Or is it that we get nominated *because* we don't pay our taxes? Either way works for me...

As for the cemetery - I'm happy to be in the company of such kindred spirits...

the one I visited was established in 1852 and is still active today. I posted a few pictures but they were too big. I went back to photobucket, resized them [I thought], then not only were they too big, they were sideways! Too much trouble...

Thanks! I'm looking forward to San Antonio. I think we're going to stay at a hotel on the Riverwalk. I can't wait to eat my way around it. :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl:

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1: I guess I always expected the Alamo to be in the desert too. :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 No cowboys?:scared1: :scared1: No way. I love cowboys. I really want to see a longhorn steer.

Well, I recall back, during the primaries, a CNN correspondent went to Texas to cover the Democratic primaries (b/c we have this stupid Texas 2 step thing that proved caucuses are pile of crap. Anyways.. I digress..) He was shooting from San Antonio and in front of the Alamo. He was dressed in a Cowboy hat and boots b/c it’s Texas, you know. Everyone in Texas wears Cowboy hats and boots. Urban myth alert. Urban myth alert.

Needless to say. He showed to be the only one wearing a Cowboy hat and boots and just looked like an out of place dork on national television. But, hey, if CNN is there – maybe you can see some pretend cowboys. Otherwise, you’re probably out of luck. In any of our cities, you won't see the stereotypical "Cowboy" stuff very often. We dress just like the rest of the United States. Heck, I grew up in a mid to large town (not a city) and even there maybe only 1% of the student body was "Cowboy". My impression is, if you want "Cowboy" go to small towns in west Texas... but I've never been to small towns in west Texas so I don't know for sure.

One thing to keep in mind is that the grounds of the Alamo were much larger in 1836. Only the chapel and the long barracks are still there, but it's still a moving experience when you visit it. Not far away is the Rivercenter Mall. They show an Imax movie called Alamo: The Price of Freedom. It's about an hour long (give or take) and is worth seeing if you're going to see the Alamo.

The Riverwalk has so many good places to eat. I'm jealous. I live three hours away and don't get to SA nearly as much as I would like.

Anyway, for years they have been talking about extending it from the MGM to McCarran, but everything has been delayed due to financial problems. I haven't read anything on it lately to see where they are at financially, but I'd be willing to bet on red that it's no better than two years ago. BTW- I'm thinking it's because nobody uses the thing, as well. Those of us who knew it would break down, we were like, um no thanks. And most drunk partyers leaving the casino end up stumbling to the front door and have the nice man standing outside in a uniform help them into a cab, rather than 'find' the monorail. Some don't even have $5 left after they leave the casino.

We rode the monorail a couple of weeks ago. There were very few people on it, but at least it didn't break down on us. We took it from Harrah's to the MGM Grand so we could check out the hotels on the south end of the strip.

The thing I didn't like is how far you have to go to get to it in some places. I heard it was placed where it is because the cabbies didn't want it running down the center of the strip and taking their business. I also heard this is the same reason the airport expansion hasn't happened yet. There's no way I would take the monorail from the airport unless I felt like carrying my bags a mile to my hotel after I get off.

Hey look, it's another pretend cowboy.:lmao:

I know West Texas does not dress like that, especially El Paso. Where you will find it will be in the good ol' boy areas of Texas, more likely than not in the eastern part of the state. The small towns. Farming and ranching would be more relevant there than in west Texas.

People think A&M is full of Cowboys, but it really isn't. People are either in the corps, or they are wearing maroon or other t-shirts. It's really what it comes down to.:thumbsup2

 The past two days have been killer!! 600 check-ins today, and guess where they all headed after checking-in?? :scared1: Exactly. 500 check-ins yesterday..... though last night I hit MK and rode HM to get rid of the stress.

Honu told me the good news- I am so excited for her!!! :teeth:

I'm not going to catch up....
