For those of you who have used the Connections child's lunch voucher in the sit-down restaurants:

What are kids allowed to order? Can they only order from a children's menu?

What kind of appetizer were you allowed to order?

I asked this a few months ago, and never got a definitive answer....the general consensus was the child must order their entree from the kid's menu, but the appetizer and dessert could be off the general menu....but no one with experience responded, these were all suppositions. :)

I can't answer you entirely - it seems to be up to the waiter/ which restaurant etc.

Here is what we did: It was only DD, 5 and myself and we ONLY used one kid voucher - no adult.

Rainforest Cafe at AK: Waiter asked us if we wanted to use the voucher for DD or me. I kind of looked at him strange and said "It's a kid voucher - for her" The way he acted was that he was going to let us order any entree off either menu. What we actually ordered:
Caribe Chicken Appetizer - plenty for my meal
Kids Pizza
Strawberry Smoothie Drink
Kid Cookie Sandwich Dessert (were told we could order off the adult menu, but not Volcano, but we were in a hurry so I wanted something small to finish quickly)
Total would have been $22

ESPN Club: My mom was with us so we just used one kid voucher and planned on paying for hers.
Ordered:
Macho Nachos for APP - huge and could not finish
Kid Meal of chicken fingers/fries
Drink (could have gotten Smoothie, etc. off adult menu)
Child dessert (again we were told we could order off the adult menu but I was stuffed!)
Waiter came with the bill and he had put my mom's meal on the voucher instead of the kids meal (Mom paid for the kids meal).
He said the voucher does not say you have to order a kids meal.
Total $27

As you can see it looks like you could at least at some places order off the adult menu for all phases of the meal - probably depends on the server and the restaurant. I love appetizer type foods so it was ideal for me to eat these as my meal. With DD only 5 yrs I couldn't justify ordering an adult meal even if they let us - she doesn't even finish the kid meals. For older children though I would definetly enquire if they could order off the adult menu.

For these two vouchers together we saved $25 over what it would have cost. I am planning on ordering a few more for my next trip, just DS and me.

Hope this helped a little!!

Thank you, Kim!! This is excellent information!! Can any others comment based on experiences?

Based on what happenened with vouchers in July.

The kids had to order off of the children's menu in all places we visited.
Rainforest Cafe
50's Prime time
San Angel
Sci-Fi

They were allowed any beverage they wanted (usually got smoothies or milkshakes)
They were allowed any appetizer except the ones intended for 2 or more people (it was allowed to combine two for one appetizer ie: Queso Fundido at San Angel one order/two vouchers)

They could have any dessert they wanted except at RFC they had to take the children's offerings which are pre-packaged ice cream treats (M&M ice cream sandwich or Snicker's cone).

We found them to work best with one child ordering off the kids menu for just the kids meal, and one using the voucher. They would share the appetizer, the milk shake or smoothy, and the dessert. We did this with the adult meal many times as well and with an extra drink and maybe a salad. Most checks were about $10.00.
I came home with three children's vouchers and four adult vouchers which I will use when I return to WDW in the spring. The June trip was the first time I used the vouchers, I used all three types and will purchase and use them again in the future. At the very least each voucher saved about $3.00, at the most they saved me over 50%. The convienience of pre-paid meals without having to purchase a way too expensive plan was well worth it. :)

Feel free to PM me if you have specific questions!

Hi Patsal,

Thanks for the information! I am seriously considering getting a few of the vouchers for a couple of light lunches. I thought what I would do is use 2 kid vouchers (since I have 2 kids!), let them pick their meals, drinks, desserts, and I would have the appetizers for my meal. I often do this anyway, so it works out great. Actually, probably 1 appetizer for my meal, and 1 for us to share. Then order my own drink as well, or stick with water like I usually do.
For those statiticians, here's a break-down. LOL I know without a doubt we will be eating at RainForest Cafe. So if we ordered the following:

2 kids meals: 11.98
2 kid desserts: 3.98
2 sodas: 3.98
1 Caribe chicken appetizer (my meal): 7.49
1 order mozzarella sticks: 7.99
Total: meal 35.42+tax 2.13 + 15% tip 5.31 = $42.86
minus: $25 (2 kids vouchers)
savings: $17.86

What is neat about this particular combo is that this is exactly what I would order with or without the vouchers. For our family, this would work for only 3 or 4 restaurants resort-wide--but luckily, they are also the restaurants we always go to--Alfredo's, RFC, and Sci-Fi. Looks like we'll be picking up some kids vouchers!

BK2,
YES! This is pretty much the same thing I do, and the same thing I got, except DH used an adult voucher for the stuffed lobster dinner and a slice of Key Lime Pie---I love those caribe chicken appetizers!!:p
