Connecting Vs adjoining rooms

Hi! Correct me if I'm wrong, but connecting rooms are different than adjoining rooms, right? I booked our cruise a couple of weeks ago. My Mom decided to join us and booked last week through DU also, requesting connecting rooms to us. Well, they gave us to adjoining rooms. I called DU and they said adjoining and connecting are the same. That didn't seem right to me. Since Mom is disabled, connecting rooms are pretty important. So I e-mailed her agent and asked to switch our rooms to connecting, but did not get a response. I know there are connecting rooms available for our dates, since they show on DCL ressie website. If I can't get a response from DU, I guess I'll be forced to cancel those ressies and re-book through DCL. I'd hate to do that, but we connecting rooms are so important to Mom. So, can you verify that connecting and adjoining are 2 different things?

Pretty sure they are the same thing. If you know the cabin numbers, you can go do www.disneycruise.com and click on the virtual ship tour. From there you can view the deck plans. If your cabins are connecting/adjoining, there will be a little arrow on the wall between the two cabins.

I checked the map and our rooms do not have those arrows. They are next to each other though. But that is not good enough for my Mom. We need connecting. I guess if I can't get a response from du, I'll cancel those ressies :( . I'd hate to do that, but if they won't help, I'm left with no choice. This is why I never use an agent.

Niks Mom: No, adjoining and connecting rooms are different. Connecting rooms will have the arrow on the ships plans. Connecting rooms have a door from one cabin to the other without going into the hall. Adjoining rooms are simply rooms that are next to each other. we always have connecting rooms as we have 4 kids, we always keep the connecting door open and have our own mini-suite. Hope this helps,

Jennifer

Nik's Mom you are correct: connecting and adjoining are two different types of rooms. You want connecting just like you asked your TA for so if they gave you adjoining they are wrong. We had adjoining our last cruise and will have connecting on our upcoming cruise.

Hope it all works out for you :goodvibes

as far as i know, adjoining means just next to each other. connected means there's a private door that can be opened in the rooms to allow you to pass from one room to the other without going out in the hallway. they're definitely different. any two rooms next to each other can be called adjoining. there are a small percentage of actual connecting rooms.

look here for deck plans:

http://www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com/cruise/deck-plans.htm

for an example of what a connecting room looks like on the plans, look at rooms 1050 and 1052. there's a little symbol like a quarter circle (or a bow and arrow) that shows it's connecting.

if the cabins you're assigned don't show that symbol, before canceling with du, if they don't get back to you, you should call dcl directly and give them your reservation number and ask to place you in connecting rooms. they should be able to do that. that way you can keep du's rates and still get the rooms you need.

Wow... Who at DU told you that??? I am disapointed.... I would think that the differences between connecting and ajoining would be a TA 101 thing to know.

Call them back... and be firm (sucks that you have to be) and change that reservation.

I have to chime in as this is one of my "causes" (to make sure everyone knows that they are different things). They often used interchangeably on this board and people should know that they are not the same thing. When it comes to cruise cabins (and hotel rooms for that matter).....as stated above connecting and adjoining are two different animals......if you want the interior door you ask for connecting cabins like the OP did....if you just want to be next to each other then ask for adjoining.....because if you want the interior door in your mind and ask DCL for adjoining....you will wind up next to each other with no interior door. DCL CM's know the difference.

I agree that TA's should know that there is a definite difference.

Good luck and I hope you get the CONNECTING cabins to make your cruise with your mom a bit easier for all of you.

I thought those terms meant 2 different things. We definitely asked for connecting because my Mom is disabled.
Just heard back from our TA and she came through with connecting rooms! :cool1: Thank goodness.
Sorry, I didn't get the name of the ta I talked to on the phone. She sounded young. Maybe she was new. It took her a while to look up the ressies, etc.
Anyway, I'm glad our problem is resolved. This reinforces my faith in TA's!
