Do you always lock your home/apartment/etc doors?

 Can anybody explain this to me? Is closing it just being forgotten? Why would anybody want to leave their garage door up unless they were actively coming-and-going through it? It's not a tidy look and I'd imagine in areas with higher rates of burglary, it would really be tempting fate.
Some people like to do it because it keeps their garage cooled off it doesn’t keep the rest of your house cooled off though especially if you have rooms above the garage Invites animals into your garage like stray cats or if you have wild animals like we do they could come in there too I for the life of me don’t understand why people do it they’re not in and out they just leave it up or they leave it cracked halfway up Again that would be to vent it out but if you’re not in it you don’t need to vent it ymmv But I agree I don’t understand it I had a neighbor asked me how do I get a cat out of my garage and I thought well starters keep your door closed and then you wouldn’t have that problem 🤣🤣🤣 I had to go get the kitty cat out of her garage which would be another thing I would worry about if I left my door open would be trapping some and roll in there I didn’t know about

I don't get it either-we have one neighbor who unless it's winter and near/below freezing leaves his open from the time he gets up until dark. I'm not comfortable with having ours open unless someone is in there or out front of the house.

I get it. we get moose that come up to our windows to peek in-i do not need to enounter one in my garage when I go out to get something out of the spare fridge.

We lock our doors when we go on vacation. Sometimes. If we remember. The windows are usually locked but only because they are the crank open and are not sealed if they aren't locked.

Most people's houses are far less secure than they think they are. If someone wants to get in your house they are getting in. No need to add property damage to the equation

I'm not going to intentionally make myself a victim of a crime of opportunity which leaving your house unlocked, garage door open extended periods of time without you near and your car unlocked parked on the driveway or street does.

There are far too many thefts of items this way and police can only retrieve a minimal amount. There's been multiple such situations where they have found hundreds of thousands of dollars worth of stolen property in my metro located at one location with many done through crimes of opportunity from all over the metro.

It's not about assuming your home is super secure or at least that's not how I would look at it. I'd rather not given someone the easiest time swiping my property. Not to mention you need to watch out for whether the intentional acts on your part such as leaving your house intentionally unlocked may result in a denial of a claim by an insurance company (which you should be sure your insurance company would cover you in the event this happens if you choose to leave your house unlocked) never mind the additional work by police which may have been prevented.
