Connecting rooms?

I am seriously considering switching from GF to POR. There are 5 of us so we need 2 rooms. Has any family requested connecting rooms & at check-in not received them?

When I made our ressie last week, the CM told me that families can always have connecting rooms.I don't know if its only applicable to those with young children(my DD and her friend are 11).

Yes. A few years ago we booked connecting rooms at CBR. We ended-up with side-by-side but not connecting rooms. Fortunately, my in-laws had decided to go with us at the last minute; so we simply put our older ds with them. Otherwise, dh and I would have had to sleep in separate rooms. Not fun on a vacation.

From what I understand if you have young children who will be staying in the 2nd room they will guarantee you connecting rooms...if not, they may only give you adjoining rooms.

P.S. why the switch from the GF? You can fit 5 in a room at GF with 2 queen beds and a daybed...if needing 2 rooms is the reason?

Actually, I was talking to a good friend of mine who has been a DVC member for a long time. She has 3 children the same ages 11,9,8. First she says we're going to go nuts in the same room for a week then says when she's at GF she feels the need to keep her kids quiet all the time (her's are more "wild" than mine) so I understand that.

So now she gets me thinking..."It would be nice to have 2 rooms"...I spend all day yesterday researching the mods because I never considered them.
If I cannot get a guaranteed connecting room, I'll stick with the GF. Their still too young. As far as theming I like them both equally. Cost doesn't matter much...there almost equal (unless the Disney Gods bless me with a pin or code )

We requested connecting rooms at AKL in early December and didn't get them. We wanted to be able to help DD with baby since her hubby would not be going, and had explained that but still no go. That was not a huge deal, but...the rooms were awful, we had reserved pool-view and could not see the pool at all, only hear it. We asked to be moved, they said no, we asked again, they said no, we asked again, they said okay but rooms will be 7 or 8 rooms apart, we said no, we remained very polite and did finally get moved to Savannah connecting. And boy was that nice. Baby could zoom all the way from her balcony through the rooms to ours. It let her work off a lot of steam from being cooped up in the stroller most of the day!

So if I have 3 kids under 11 & book 2 rooms they will guarantee connecting right?

with minor children in the other room, they guarantee the room. My daughters are 13 and 10 and we have a connecting room for our upcoming trip in Nov.

Sorry, stupid question coming! What's the difference between connecting and adjoining rooms?

Connecting has its own door between the 2 rooms. Adjoining are just rooms next to eachother.

jjohnson - we stayed at GF last year with our three kids (5,7 and 9). We were really concerned about being cooped up in one room for nine nights.

We really didn't find it to be an issue. The rooms at the GF are large, and the high ceilings make them feel even larger. It would have been nice to have another bathroom, but we were located right next to the Summerhouse, which is next to the pool with the slide. When we were returning to the room from the parks, we would sometimes use the bathrooms there so we didn't end up waiting for each other to use the one in the room. The bathrooms in the Summerhouse are really, really nice - like bathrooms you would find in a spa, and I don't ever remember seeing anyone else in there.

Personally, if the price is about the same, I would stay at the GF. We stayed at POFQ before, I just preferred the theming at GF. I never felt like I had to tell my kids to be quiet. I don't think it feels stuffy at all. Also, I didn't like that you entered your room from the outside at POFQ, feels too motel like to me (although you've got to love the serpent pool!!)

Thanks for the input. I switched today to POR-riverside 2 rooms but not sure about my decision & I thought I could connect a king room w/standard but POR doesn't have that so now DH & I will be in a double Top things off I went to take a nap before & looked over at my computer screen & it was showing the slideshow of GF on my screensaver but $126 AAA rate is great & with the price diff. & boat to DTD were thinking of adding tickets to Cirque.

I think the answer to all my problems is to start planning a 2006 trip!

Oh this is just "great"

I was told when I switched from GF that the connecting rooms are guaranteed. Obviously not!

There is no way I'm having my kids go outside to get to my room everytime they need us.

Time to have another disney talk with my DH tonight.

Sorry everything went so bad for your trip. Hope it improves next time. Have you ever considered FW or the deluxe room at WL? They both hold 6.

Every CM I have talked to SINCE my trip last week said the connecting door SHOULD have been a guarantee, and in fact it was, verbally. Just all the people I asked to double-check that detail (must have been getting psychic vibes, lol) must have just paid me lip service, and never actually let their fingers do the walking, I suppose.

I will certainly never trust the promise of connecting doors again, going to have to try cabins or hold onto the suites when I book them!

Your confirmation should say, guaranteed connecting rooms for families. If it just has connecting rooms requested, call CRO back. Everytime we were guaranteed, we did get connecting rooms.

You would think since you were also dealing with Special Services that there wouldn't be any slipups. It's inexcusable!

I like the idea of having a king in one room also.
I thought I saw another post, about someone getting a King room connecting to a double at the CBR. You might want to look into that.
