Connecting Rooms

I am confident there is an easy answer to this question, but it has never been an issue for me and I do not know. What is the best way to book connecting rooms in one of the deluxe WDW resorts? Some family members are starting to plan a May trip. We will need two bedrooms and would love for them to be connecting so our kids can run between the rooms and play together. What is the best way of accomplishing that? Should one of us bo0ok both rooms and make a request? if so, how does one make the request for connecting rooms? Any info or guidance would be appreciated

The Polynesian and the Contemporary have the largest ratio of connecting guest rooms.

Now the tricky part. Connecting rooms are not a booking category or more than just a room request. Yes it would be easiest for a single guest to book both rooms on the same reservation to improve your chances of a CM making the correct choices during the reservation process. This will allow the reservation CM to link the reservations of the 2 rooms.

Normally connecting rooms are reserved for families that have a high child to adult ratio. All you can do is make that your only "request'.

Note: The Swan resort at WDW (right next to the Boardwalk) has a category of rooms know as n"Family rooms" where a King Bed room connects to a double Queen room. This is a booking category so you will get your requested combination.

Each room is a separate reservation so one of you booking both doesn't do anything.
Book your own reservation and then have both reservation numbers and call to request connecting rooms.
There are no guarantees but they will try their best.

As Dave006 mentioned, you can call Swan and book connecting rooms and can also book 2-bedroom suites which, typically, price out much less than 2 rooms at a WDW deluxe. We just stayed in a grand, 2-bedroom suite at the Swan for the price of one room at the Grand Floridian. To guarantee two connecting bedrooms at a WDW deluxe, you would need to book a 2-bedroom suite or a 2-bedroom villa at a deluxe villa resort (the 2-bedrooms are lovely as they also come with a full kitchen and washer/dryer). Otherwise, at WDW, connecting is simply a request.

I booked 2 rooms as POFQ for January. When I made the reservations, I reserved my room first, and entered the request for a connecting room with the lead person on the 2nd reservation (which I hadn't yet made). When I made the second reservation, I entered the request for a connecting room with my reservation.

Once both rooms (packages) were paid in full, I received a "final itinerary" for each room from Disney that listed the reservation details, including the connecting room requests.

So the only way to guarantee connecting rooms is if you don't have enough adults to watch over the kids on the reservation, which probably isn't the case. Disney World resorts are surprisingly not good at connecting rooms or even putting groups close together.

If you are looking at deluxe rooms anyway, I would highly recommend looking into a 2 bedroom villa. Renting points would be about the same price as 2 standard hotel rooms and gets you way more space for that money, plus you're guaranteed to share. For May 2022, Saratoga Springs and Old Key West have good availability.
