Connecting rooms

I am looking to book a stay at POR. I am traveling with my friends and their 5 children. The idea is to book the two parents with their 4 yr old and then me with their 8 yr old twins. I am their Fairy godmother so am 100% on board with that. The Dad is concerned that if we don't get connecting rooms that it would ruin the trip for him. I know that they don't guarantee connecting rooms but just wonder how often that request is not honored? Anyone request connecting rooms but not be able to get them?

What about the other two kids?

Over the years I think it is probably about 50/50 if you will get connecting rooms based on reports here. It is always a risk.

Disney is not great at this, and POR is a small resort. If this is dealbreaking for you, I might rethink this plan.

PO French Quarter is a small resort. PO Riverside is very big & spread out.

It's never guaranteed, and there will be an adult in each room. Disney does it's best, but it happens quite often.

If this is truly how he feels, the family would be better off looking into a larger unit -- maybe a 1- or 2-bedroom villa or a family suite or a cabin at FW.

WDW does fairly well with honoring requests for "connecting" but it will not be guaranteed and depending on how many others want the same thing at the same time, it may not be possible. I suggest making that the only request, and noting they are willing to wait for a room if necessary to get the request.

You can call Disney reservations and book a multiple room reservation to increase your chances of getting a connecting room. The multiple room reservation puts two or more rooms under the same reservation number and functions as one big room in the system when it comes to who is assigned to each room and the MagicBand access. We were given connecting rooms when we booked our reservation this way. But it isn't a guarantee.

Not if Riverside is booked up, and not necessarily in the same price category.

Bottom line, yes they will do what they can, but there are only so many connecting rooms. And first priority for connecting rooms would be a party without a second adult to go in the second room. Then a party with 2 adults only. A party with multiple adults such as yours - especially when the plan is already to book the rooms with adults and kids booked in each room - is honestly going to be the lowest priority in the hierarchy for connecting rooms.

The OP is already booking at Riverside, not French Quarter.

I got connecting rooms with my parents at Pop once when we didn't even request it, we only noted that we were travelling together. It was not a busy time of year, though.

I've gotten connecting rooms each trip that we've requested them. My family on one reservation, then my mom on her own. We get them linked with "travel with numbers". Connecting rooms is the ONLY request we make. My oldest will then sleep in the same room as my mom and it gives the kids plenty of room to run around

I don't get this at all. As was mentioned that they should look at other accommodations.

I've requested adjoining rooms many times with grandkids next door as I watch the kids at night sometimes. Almost always, my request has been honored. If not connecting, then right next door. This has only happened a couple of times. I had a cast member tell me they really try to keep families traveling together near each other and try to honor requests. My experience has been good.

I just called to book rooms earlier this week and brought up wanting connecting rooms at the beginning, but they gave me two confirmation numbers and wanted a different person as the contact for the second (even though both are on my credit card). They put the request in the system though, so I’m hoping for the best. Ideally I would’ve booked a two bedroom suite but they were all sold out across WDW for the dates we needed.

Just to clarify (again)...

IF you are wanting the interior door between the rooms, you need to make sure you are requesting CONNECTING.

If you are ok with the rooms being across the hall, diagonally, around the corner, or next door but without that interior door, the request is ADJOINING.

It may seem like the words mean the same thing, but in hotel-speak they are VERY different. And having worked in a hotel (not Disney), people regularly request "adjoining" and then get upset when that is exactly what they get. Turns out when they go complain at the front desk they really wanted connecting. Yes, a good reservations agent (or travel agent) should ask for clarification when someone requests "adjoining" but not all do - or from experience will insist that they mean adjoining (when that happened, I always made note that they were expressly asked if they wanted an interior door between the two rooms or if close by but not with that door was ok and insisted they "meant adjoining".)
