Connecting Rooms

A co-worker of mine is trying to book connecting rooms for her large family. The CM she spoke with says the can't guarantee connecting rooms. Is this true??? She was looking at staying at the GF or WL. Thanks!

Connecting rooms at Disney World are never guaranteed. The only time room requests are guranteed are for medical reasons. There are other times when there is a disappropriate number of children to the adults in a room (like one adult for four kids or something like that).

However, Disney will note that you requested connecting rooms and will do everything they can to give you your request. It's not 100% percent but it's as close as they can get.

The number of connecting rooms are limited, connecting means that there is a door between the 2 rooms. These rooms are not guaranteed unless there are children in the second room.
Adjoining rooms are rooms that are next to each other but are not connected by a door between the two.
You most likely will have a better chance of getting adjoining rooms, but from what I understand even these are not guaranteed.

That is correct, connecting rooms can't be guaranteed. We requested connecting rooms at POFQ in Dec. '06 and even though we checked in pretty early we were only able to get adjoining rooms. It still worked out fine for our two families.

Does your friend have small children? If so, if she mentions this at the time she makes her ressie she has a better chance because they do try to accompany those guests that have small children.

If your party is such that there will only be children in the second room then let them know that and they will try their best to get the connecting rooms ... most of the time they won't split up a "couple" making one sleep in one room and one in another. But, you have to be very explicit in the sleeping arrangements regarding adults and children when booking.

If the children are older (you note ages on the reservation) it becomes one of those borderline issues. You can always request to be moved as soon as connecting rooms open up, though. They do try hard to accomodate those requests.

Yep, they won't guarantee them unless there are special circumstances that would place children alone in a room (you have four kids, for example, and two adults).

They always tell you they can't "guarantee" it. They usually try their best to accomodate though.

Even having 4 children and 2 adults does not guarantee a connecting room. In theory with 2 adults, one adult could always sleep in each room.

Heh. My mother-in-law asked me to request connecting rooms. I realy did not want a connecting room with my in-laws. So I requested adjoining rooms and didn't mention connecting rooms at all. I even said the rooms could just be on the same floor and that would be fine.

We have been lucky in that we have requested and gotten connecting the last 4 years. My kids are getting older now so I am keeping my fingers crossed we will get them again this year. We travel with my parents and the kids go back and for between the 2 rooms a lot so for us connecting is better (and quieter).

FWIW, I just got back from a trip with my sister, BIL and niece. I asked for nearby rooms, and we got connecting.

The only way that Disney will guarantee connecting rooms is if the party consists of one adult and several minor children. The age of the children is irrelevant if the party has more than one adult.

Four kids and two adults would not necessarily place kids alone in a room - Room 1, adult with 2 kids; room 2, adult with 2 kids.

We have requested connecting rooms on our last 3 trips and have always gotten them. Hopefully will happen for us again in Jan.

I've had to speak with CMs at disney travel over a few booking issues this past week and each time I asked our chances of actually getting the connecting rooms we requested and were told:
"you have little ones, they will give you connecting rooms"
"I wouldn't worry at all"
"100%"(chances)
The kids will be 9, 6, 4, and 4 when we go (2 adults)
